The morning sunlight filtered through the half-drawn curtains, casting a warm, golden hue over the room. Dazai stirred first, his arm wrapped securely around Chuuya's waist as they lay tangled in each other's warmth. The remnants of last night's soft banter and teasing lingered in the air, making the morning all the more peaceful. Dazai's lips curled into a lazy smile as he felt Chuuya shift slightly in his arms."Morning, Chibi," Dazai murmured, voice still laced with sleep.
Chuuya groaned in response, burying his face deeper into Dazai's chest. "Don't call me that so early in the morning," he grumbled, his voice muffled against Dazai's skin.Dazai chuckled, planting a soft kiss on the top of Chuuya's head. "Can't help it. You're just too adorable."
With a sigh, Chuuya reluctantly opened his eyes, the reality of the day ahead pulling him from the comfort of their shared bed. "We need to get up," he muttered, though he made no effort to move.
Dazai, ever the playful one, tightened his hold. "Just five more minutes. I promise it'll be worth it."
Chuuya raised an eyebrow, giving Dazai a knowing look. "We've already slept in. You've got work at the ADA, and I've got business at the Port Mafia."
"Exactly why we should savor these few minutes together," Dazai replied with a sly grin. But, as Chuuya's hand reached for Dazai's hair and tugged lightly, the message was clear."We're showering, and you're not getting out of it."
After their shared shower—filled with Dazai's teasing and Chuuya's sharp retorts—they sat down for a quick breakfast. The smell of fresh coffee filled the air, and the clink of dishes was the only sound for a brief moment. Chuuya glanced over at Dazai, who was mindlessly playing with his food."You're not nervous about going back to the ADA, are you?" Chuuya asked, though he already knew the answer.
Dazai shrugged. "Kunikida's always going to be a pain, but that's nothing new. Just another report to hand in."
Chuuya snorted. "Knowing you, you'll drag it out just to mess with him."
"Of course, it's the highlight of my day," Dazai replied, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.Chuuya finished his coffee and stood up, adjusting his jacket. "Try not to get into too much trouble. I've got my own mess to deal with over at the Mafia."
Dazai leaned back in his chair, watching Chuuya with a soft smile. "I'll be fine. But you, Chuuya... Be careful."
"Don't act like I can't handle myself," Chuuya retorted, though the slight worry in Dazai's voice wasn't lost on him.
The day passed quickly, the routine of work taking over as Dazai submitted his mission report at the ADA. He exchanged his usual banter with Kunikida, provoking just enough irritation without crossing any lines. But something about the day felt... off.It wasn't until later, when Dazai returned to the Port Mafia to finish his work, that the subtle feeling turned into a gut-wrenching realization.
As he walked through the hallways, Atsugawa hurried toward him, panic written all over his face.
"Dazai-san!" Atsugawa's voice cracked slightly as he approached. "I've been trying to reach Chuuya-san, but... I think something's happened. He went off the radar during his mission."Dazai's carefree demeanor dropped instantly. "What do you mean, off the radar?"
"I-I don't know the full details, but he was supposed to report back hours ago. There's been no word from him since he left the Port Mafia for his mission." Atsugawa's voice wavered as he spoke, the worry and fear clear in his eyes.
Dazai's chest tightened. He pulled out his phone and dialed Chuuya's number, but there was no response. His fingers tightened around the device as he tried calling again, the sound of the unanswered ring echoing in his ears.
"Where was the mission?" Dazai demanded, his voice cold.
Atsugawa stammered, quickly relaying the location. Dazai turned on his heel, storming toward Mori's office without a second thought. He didn't even bother knocking as he pushed the door open.
Mori glanced up from his desk, his expression unreadable. "Dazai-kun, is there a problem?"
Dazai's eyes darkened as he stepped forward. "Chuuya's gone missing on a mission. You knew about this?"
Mori's smile was calm, almost too calm for Dazai's liking. "Yes, I assigned him the mission. It was nothing he couldn't handle."
"Clearly, that's not the case," Dazai growled, his hand twitching as if ready to act. "If Chuuya is hurt—if anything happens to him because of this mission—you won't live to regret it."
The air in the room thickened with tension as Dazai's threat hung heavy in the air. Mori's smile didn't waver, though his eyes sharpened.
"You care a great deal for Chuuya, don't you?" Mori mused. "But I assure you, I had no intention of putting him in unnecessary danger."
Dazai's patience was wearing thin, and he turned without another word, leaving Mori behind as he headed toward his car.
The drive to the mission area was agonizing. Dazai's mind raced with possibilities, each one worse than the last. Chuuya was capable, strong—there was no doubt about that. But if something had gone wrong, if the enemy had planned an ambush...He couldn't allow himself to think like that. Not yet.
Dazai sped through the streets, eyes scanning the area as he approached the location Atsugawa had given him. The area was eerily quiet, too quiet for a place that had supposedly been the site of a mission.
He parked the car and stepped out, scanning his surroundings. The warehouse district stretched before him, shadows creeping along the walls as the evening settled in. Dazai moved quickly, his senses on high alert as he checked each corner, each potential hiding spot.
But there was no sign of Chuuya. His frustration mounted as he retraced his steps, calling Chuuya's phone once more only to be met with the same deafening silence.
Dazai clenched his fists, his mind spiraling as he considered every option. There was no way Chuuya would have been taken down without a fight. He would have left some trace, some clue. But as Dazai searched the area again, his heart sank.
Chuuya was gone. And there was no telling where.Dazai's phone buzzed in his pocket, and he answered without checking the ID. "What?"
Atsugawa's shaky voice came through the line. "Dazai-san... there's still no word from Chuuya-san."
Dazai closed his eyes, his frustration bubbling over into anger. "I'll find him," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "I don't care what it takes, but I'll find him."And when he did, whoever was responsible would pay dearly.
This chapter sets the stage for Dazai's growing desperation and anger as he searches for Chuuya, with tension building as the situation becomes increasingly dire. Let me know if you'd like any adjustments or more details!
