Chapter Nine

I scan the piece of paper one more time and a sense of dread washes over me. I have written every place I plan on taking Rory to. I decide to keep it short and simple because Quarter 1 has too many places of relevance I could take him. If I chose to extend this 'tour' beyond these four locations, I am very certain that I would end up either punching Rory in the face or he will irritate me into oblivion. None of those are the outcome I want from this mission.

I'm already fully dressed for school in my uniform. I fold the paper up into a neat square and place it in my skirt pocket. My breakfast today is as usual, a breakfast bowl. When I'm seated in the car, Knockout asks, "After school today is there anywhere you want me to drive you and Rory to?" His name alone makes my skin crawl. I'm reminded how Knockout was privy to dad's arrangement with the Ackermans and didn't see it necessary to give me a forewarning at least.

I'm already dreading this so much. Knockout taps his fingers against the steering wheel, waiting for my response.

"Maybe Inwoods." I mutter the first place on my list almost inaudibly.
We endure the rest of the car ride in silence. As I step out of the car I catch sight of Rory exiting the driver's side of a car parked a good ten feet from where I am. I tear my eyes away from him an plug my ears. Making my way through the bodies of students and into the school hallway. I'm about to put in my password on the little black keypad and when I notice a small piece of paper taped to it. With my eyebrows drawn together, I read the three worded message.

Don't tell daddy.

I can't refrain from rolling my eyes. Has Winter Greene finally upgraded her tactics from teasing me during government class to leaving notes taped to my locker now?

I peel the tape off and crumple the note before tossing it in the bin. I open my locker and grab my needed notes. Level B Government is up first. I expect Winter to laugh the minute she sees me over her taped note but all she doesn't react even I walk into class.

Miss Bernstein teaches us the topic policy formation. The core essence and intention behind the formation of any policy or law or regulation within the Union is to ensure the best for the Union citizens.
She lists laws over the past four years that have been enacted;

The law of establishment of Quarters— they keep everyone in line and where they are supposed to be.

The law of compulsory education— they ensure all students within the Union are learning essential subjects that are beneficial to them mentally and socially.

The law of restriction of travel within the Union— with the exception of the inhabitants of Quarter 1 residents who need to travel to other Sections for political reasons, no other inhabitant of other Quarters can travel to other Sections as this may lead to unwarranted problems.

The law of singular industries— it ensures all Union citizens are ingesting, consuming or making use of the same products and prevents thoughts of division.

By the time free period comes along before lunch, I am exhausted. I walk to my familiar spot in the hallway. I started reading in this particular hallway downstairs during my free periods because of how quiet it is. It's the closest hallway to the the back exit of Dalton Academy. At the end of the hallway is the emergency exit that leads to the parking lot where the eight school buses are parked. This hallway is the perfect place to revise and touch up on my knowledge of the spy verse.
