CHAPTER THIRTEEN: PAST

'PARK SUNGHOON'

L
Sunghoon sat in his office, eyes fixed on the framed photograph resting on his desk. His fingers absentmindedly brushed the edges of the frame as he stared at the image—himself and Sunoo, their smiles wide and genuine, standing together as if nothing could ever break them apart. They looked so happy. He never thought it would come to this—barely tolerating each other, locked in a constant battle of hatred and bitterness. It wasn’t always like this.

He sighed, his mind wandering back to the past, back to when things were different. Back before Hyun-suk.

He remembered one particular day during high school. They were on the rooftop, the event below them in full swing. Sunghoon leaned on the railing, watching as students cheered for their favorite acts. Next to him, Sunoo was doing the same, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he scanned the crowd.

"Yah, Sunoo," Sunghoon called, nudging him with his elbow. "You should date him," he teased, pointing to a boy down on the field. The guy was tall, handsome, someone the girls fawned over.

Sunoo chuckled softly, shaking his head. "You should date her," he countered, pointing at the most popular girl in school, someone who was always surrounded by admirers.

they teased eachother continuosly, pointing at different boys and girls, suggesting to date them

Sunghoon shrugged nonchalantly, "Should I date you instead?"

Sunoo’s eyes widened as he looked at Sunghoon, caught off guard by the sudden suggestion. "W-what... me?" He pointed at himself, almost as if the idea was too absurd to comprehend.

Sunghoon nodded, a small grin playing on his lips as if the question wasn’t so far-fetched. Sunoo laughed, waving it off as if it were a joke. "You deserve someone better than me."

"I don’t think so," Sunghoon said quietly, but there was something in his tone that made Sunoo pause. "I deserve you. We’re best friends, aren’t we? We’ve been together for four years now. It wouldn’t be so bad."

Sunoo blinked at him, still thinking Sunghoon was playing around. He playfully placed a finger on his chin, as if considering the offer seriously. "What about this? I’ll date five boys, and if none of them work out, we’ll get married." Sunoo grinned, thinking it was the most ridiculous idea.

Sunghoon chuckled, unable to stop himself from smiling at Sunoo’s absurd proposition. "Yah, didn’t you like the idea?" Sunoo pouted, and Sunghoon, unable to resist, reached out to squish his cheeks in affection.

"Okay, let’s do this," Sunghoon said, still in awe of how easily Sunoo could make everything seem so simple, so carefree.

"Deal?" Sunoo asked, extending his pinky finger.

"Deal," Sunghoon replied, hooking his pinky around Sunoo’s and softly booping his nose.

but little did they knew..their deal was going to be the reason of the misery
