Xander's POV
Missing out on a few days at the office to work at home didn't really help with my workload, especially as I still wanted to go on the honeymoon with Alexa.
This time, it was a place of our choosing and without any supervision from the evil woman, but we really wouldn't be able to make it if I didn't manage to put all the work behind me.
Cracking my knuckles, which ache a bit, I push my chair to the back a little and unbutton the top buttons of my shirt.
Since I had a board meeting earlier, I am dressed to the nines. Those board members had a lot of questions for me, especially on my marital status. My phone pings to alert me of a message and I don't hesitate before I reach for it.

What do you want for dinner? I'm considering cooking since I'm bored out of my mind right now. Also, uhm, I might have ruined one of your shirts.
I read the text with a smile forming on my face. And then I text her back.
Me
Sure. I don't mind anything you cook. I don't want you to be nervous. I thought you went out today. Didn't you? Also, why are you doing the laundry?
Wifey❤️
Okay. Is spaghetti and meatballs alright for you? Or casserole? Nothing extra, I promise. And I did step out for a while. How do you know? You have people watching me, don't you?
A full smile blossoms on my face. I might have taken a few extra actions to make sure that she would be safe when I'm not there. I don't want her to not be safe all the time. I start to text back when another text comes in from her.
Wifey❤️
Also, I didn't mention that I did the laundry. But yeah, that's how I ruined your shirt. I'm so sorry.
I start to text back when a knock sounds on my door. I ask Carly to come in because I know that she is the one. She saunters in with a smile on her face.
“I've been able to schedule a meeting with Mr. Chris. Can I ask what this is for?” She ask, but I'm already texting my wife back.
Me
I just guessed since you mentioned that you were bored. I have to go now but have fun making dinner. Depending on how things go, I might be a little late tonight.
“Uh, what's going on?” Carly nosy ass asks.
“Just texting my wife.” I smile at her as I put my phone away. “Good job on scheduling the meeting. I want to buy ‘Lovely’.”
“Huh? As in the restaurant?” Carly looks puzzled.
“Yep. My wife is going to head it. She needs something to do.” I tell her.
“You can just build her a restaurant, you know that, right?” She asks.
“I can do that, but it's going to take a lot of time. And she needs it soon.” I explain.
“Right.” Carly doesn't hide her smile.
I dismiss her and pick up my phone again just as it notifies me of the new text from Alexa asking me to have fun. I send her a reply before dialing my best friend's line.
He has been out of the country with his wife for a while now. Well, after I and Alexa got married.
“Hey, man.” He says when he picks the call.
“Dave, how are you doing, man? Enjoyed your trip to bliss land?” I tease him.
“Fuck off,” he grunts but I can hear him laugh.
Dave is a grunt but with his wife, he beams like a light bulb. Sofie does bring out the best in him.
“How did you know we were back?” he asks.
“I guess I won't be able to talk to you now. Since you froze the world out on your trip with Sofia.” I jab at him.
“Hey. She isn't complaining.” He tells me.
I laugh. “She sure won't. Send her my greetings. And can you ask her if she would be down to go over to the house to talk to my wife tomorrow?” I ask.
“What is this about?”
“Well, my wife might be feeling a little lonely. She doesn't have friends and she is bored out of her mind.” I explain.
Silence reigns on the line for a few seconds.
“So, let me get this straight. This woman whom you had no choice but to marry, whom you married for certain reasons and who complained was too…stubborn? Proud? She is lonely and needs a friend?”
It's my time to say it.
“Man, f**ck off.”
Dave's response is to laugh out loud which also makes me laugh.
“Well, I will tell Sofia. But you have her number so you should text her yourself to see if she is free. Now, as much as I want to hear all these, I have a lot to do. So maybe we could have drinks tomorrow.”
“Sure. Appreciate you, man.”
He mumbles something before he hangs up. And then I'm left to smile at what he said. Feels fucking unbelievable too.
