The guys went off to play, and I was finishing up some tasks – lessons, check-in, shopping. As I'm bringing in my things, a winter-man turns to me from the table. Majestic, like all of them, proud. Handsome, of course. There's nothing on the table in front of him. So, was he just staring at the wall until I came in?
"Hello. Which language do you prefer?" he asks in German.
"It doesn't matter. I'm confused about which one I should speak right now anyway," I reply, also in German.
He laughed.
"Well, you're doing pretty well, actually," he compliments.
"How do you know how I'm doing?" I think to myself.
We talked, I told him that I'm here with a friend, that he's a street musician, and I'm a writer.
I went to the kitchen, made myself coffee, came back, and he's carrying a tin box with cookies and says:
"Would you like some cookies?"
But I don't know where he got this box from, because the table was empty.
It's impolite to refuse, generally.
I always accept what's offered.
"Thank you."
He puts the box in front of me and says:
"Someone left this here for you."
I asked him to repeat, he laughed and said:
"See you again," and left.
I brought the box with me. Tin boxes, by the way, are one of the best gifts for me. I always have something to put in them, so if you have any unnecessary ones, don't hesitate to send them to me.
