GRACIE HUGHES WAS ANYTHING but an introvert. Growing up, she knew everyone and everyone knew her. She technically wasn't considered popular at school, but she always made sure to say hello to every teacher or student she passed in the hallway on the way to her classes. She stayed that way even as an adult.
Gracie had always dreamed of being a detective. However, when she joined the CCPD, she had to wait a few years before she could take the detective's exam. So, she worked as a normal police officer.
That's when she met her best friend Piper.
"So, you're saying you have to figure out what's in the poop sample?" Gracie asked as Barry, the forensic scientist at the CCPD explained what exactly he was doing.
The two of them knew each other since they were in elementary school. Barry, Gracie, and their best friend Iris were unofficially named 'the best trio' when they were in school together. They would do absolutely everything together and would refuse to be separated.
But, they were separated eventually.
Gracie's mom died when she was around 12 years old. Her mom was flying home from a week-long buisness trip, but unfortunately never returned home.
Not alive at least.
Almost immediately after Gracie's mother died, her dad basically uprooted her from her childhood town and home, and moved her to Starling City. She wasn't too happy about that not only because she was moving to Starling City out of all places in the world, but because she'd been separated from her best friends.
The trio eventually grew apart, which is usually expected when one moves away. They stayed in contact, but only ever really talked when wishing each other Happy Birthday.
Though, when Gracie signed up to be a cop, she was lucky enough to be placed back in her home city, Central City.
Coming back definitely felt weird for her. She hadn't been there in nearly twelves years. The trio was never the same. It wasn't like it was back when they were kids as much as they wished it was.
They were still friends of course, but they didn't share that best friend status like they used to.
"Pretty much." Barry told her.
"Okay, I am ready to see this atom smasher smashing." Iris said with a smile as she entered Barry's lab.
"There was a shooting today." Barry told her. "Your dad needs me to process some evidence, which means I don't know if we're going to be able to make it to S.T.A.R. Labs."
"But seeing this thing turn on is like your dream." Iris said, grabbing a few of Barry's fries. "Your sad, little nerdy dream. Besides, I canceled a date for this."
"Hands of my fries." Barry said, snatching the fries from her hand. "Unbelievable."
"Hold on," Gracie said with a laugh. "You're blowing off a date to hang out with this nerd at a place filled with even more nerds?"
