Kiyo POVI stopped speaking bracing for impact. I knew what Tsubaki would do. It was a word I heard from an adult and I saw the other adult get mad at that.
...
I was wrong again. I thought I would be frustrated by being wrong. Well, I keep proving myself wrong every single time with Tsubaki.
She was such an annoying girl to me because I was always wrong about her actions.
"Yet being annoyed isn't the same as being angry." I muttered.
Her facial muscles, the orbicularis oculi muscle around her eyes, and the wrinkled brow muscles near her eyebrows.
I had never seen such a look on the other students' or adults' faces. The exception to that would be Tsubaki and Shiro despite that I was mad because I couldn't smile either
The girl herself seemed to understand my thoughts.
"That... Now, I..."
"You look so confused about it again Kiyotaka I always smile so what can't you understand"
I answered her truthfully "why can't I smile like that when I'm around you and Shiro then?"
"I'm not sure but I can always smile around you if that helps"
"That doesn't make me feel any better-mmpf?! why do you now decide to punch me that was very random"
"Because I'm not teaching you to smile"
"Why not?" That still doesn't explain the punch
Tsubaki looked at me a bit surprised when I asked her so I tried again.
"Why-"
"Are you jealous you can't smile?"
I nodded to her amusement as she patted my head and gave me another hug. She knew my own emotion before I could understand?
...or she's just messing around like she did when we were toddlers.
I can see why I never learned that. I was never taught that look. But I know it. It was a smile. It was an instinct that we're born with, or perhaps even before we're born. That may be why she could express it without having to learn it.
"Kiyotaka" Tsubaki whispers in my ear. I only nodded so she could continue.
"I have a plan about the going outside"
"Tsubaki that's the first joke you told me that isn't funny"
"You never laugh at my jokes to begin with Kiyotaka"
"Exactly their not funny"
...
"Please continue I'm sorry"
"It will involve Shiro dropping out first intentionally I was planning to do it first but I decided I'm not leaving you alone"
"What are you talking about-"
"Shiro will be our informer of the outside world I have an instructor on our side as well"
"Tsubaki how-"
"Don't worry about you don't have to change for my plan Kiyotaka"
"Then why tell me this"
"Because we are friends" I might slap her butt instead of throwing her on it

The White Room children weren't taught many survival rules, but a few strict regulations remained, even in our fifth year. At 7:00 AM, a timer rang precisely, followed by a voice announcing the time.
We began to wake up. A staff member entered, removed the electrodes from our bodies, and checked our health. The routine continued with measurements of height, weight, and other changes.
We went to the bathroom to urinate. Urine samples and a small amount of blood were taken monthly. After the examination, the staff left without greetings. We rehydrated and did 30 minutes of basic training.
Daily physical records, like grip strength, were kept. Everyone entered the training room to complete their gender-assigned quotas. Meeting quotas was mandatory; those who failed wouldn't return the next day. By the time these steps were completed, it was 8:00 AM.
At the time, breakfast was more nutritionally oriented and more efficient than it was in my earlier childhood, with supplements and blocked nutrition. To eat well or not to eat well.
Whether I liked it or not. It was as irrelevant as ever. Eat the food in the order in which it was served. That was all there was to it. After the meal, the day's curriculum would begin.
We studied various subjects, from Japanese and mathematics to economics and political science, with the curriculum repeating until noon, with small breaks. Lunch was the same as breakfast, and the curriculum resumed in the afternoon.
We studied until 5:00 PM, followed by physical training until 7:00 PM. During this time, we didn't speak of our own accord. After dinner, bathing, and physical exams, it was 9:00 PM.
At 9:00 PM, we had a 30-minute meeting to review the day, without teachers. We discussed our feelings and responses to the day's studies. Silence was allowed as long as rules were followed.
Adults were monitoring, but no special quotas were given. At 9:30 PM, we returned to our rooms, used the bathroom, and were in bed by 10:00 PM.
Electrodes were attached, and the lights went out. Medical checkups were daily. Our White Room schedule was set to the minute.
This was just our life now.
