We met in 8th grade when we were 12. She had just moved here and I could tell that she was in unfamiliar territory. She seemed extremely shy and I could tell that many sounds bothered her. It didn't matter if they were loud or not. I saw that some kids had backed her up against her locker and were messing with her. I watched at first. I couldn't take it anymore when one kid, her name was Jessy, knocked her books on the ground and clapped loudly making the girl cover her eyes and shut her eyes.

I ran over to the group and stood in front of her. "Don't touch her again." I said sternly.

"Come on Jordan we were just messing with the newbie." Jessy says. Jessy and I were cool but we weren't exactly friends either.

"Jessy, stop." I said once again stern.

"Whatever it was lame over here anyway." Jessy scoffed and walked away with her minions. I turned around and my face softened at the girl on the ground. I could tell that everything was too much for her. I quietly leaned down and picked her stuff up. I didn't dare touch her because I knew that it could potentially make it worse.

"It's okay now, they're gone." I carefully whispered. She carefully released her hands from her head and looked up at me with tears. I wanted to hug her but I knew that I couldn't. Everything was already overwhelming for her. "Thank you." She says ever so softly.

"I'm Jordan." I tell her with a soft smile.

"I'm Kara." She says voice wavering. She was so fragile and for whatever reason right then and there I wanted to protect her.

"You new?" I ask her and she nods her head standing up so I stand up with her. "Can I see your schedule? Maybe we have some classes together. And if we don't I can walk you to yours." I say with a smile. She hands over her schedule and I widen my eyes. "Wow we have every single class together." I said louder than intended and she winces. "Sorry." I say whispering. "Kara." I say to her and she looks up. "From now on. I will be there for you and I will protect you. It's me and you against the world." I say whispering to her and she gives me a smile. The first one of many.

Once we hit high school a lot of things changed. We still had a lot of the same classes. Sometime in our freshman year I realized that I loved Kara more than a friend should. Yet I knew that she wouldn't feel the same about me. Not only that her adoptive parents would never let me come over even though we were close. Kara could never tell me why. It hurt but at the same time something could be going on there that I didn't know. So whenever she wasn't home I would be there for her physically.

We are currently both 17 in our junior year. She has come so far since we first met in that hallway in middle school. She still has issues with loud sounds but she's better now and she has ear muffs. I also keep a few back up ear plugs on me in case she needs it. So far I haven't had to use them so that's good. I'm also pretty sure that she doesn't even know that I carry them on me.

I walk into school and look for Kara. Once I spot her I smile wide. I walked up behind her and lightly tap on her shoulder as to not scare her. Without looking I know she's smiling. She turns around and gives me a big hug. "Hey, babygirl." I say whispering into her ear.

"Hey, Jordan." She says then looks me over. I know she's looking at my clothes because I decided to change my sense of style once again. I changed styles like the weather. This time I'm wearing oversized jeans, an oversized short sleeve tee, white Nikes and a large chain. "It fits you." She says laughing.

"If it's Kara approved then it's a win in my book." I say joining in her laughter. Our laughter died down when we seen Kara's older sister, Alex walking our way. For reasons unknown she has not liked me since we first met.
