Six years later:

I had a hot blonde with lovely blue eyes in my bed. She was nothing more than a good fuck. Her name is Talia and we worked together and this was most likely going to be the last time I would see her again. See we are investigators for the paranormal and extraterrestrial. We work cases for (most of the time) non human cases.

I had a cigarette in my mouth taking a pull when she gags in disgust. "Oh come on, Jay, those things are bad for you." She says and I roll my eyes.

"Yeah well so is sleeping with your coworker but yet here we are." I say to her.

"You can be such a dick." She whines out.

"You weren't saying that 15 minutes ago. If I recall you were calling me daddy or something like that." I say smirking to her and her face flushes.

"Whatever, dickhead." She says crossing her arms.

"Whatever, asshole." I say to her mocking her.

"Anyway. So where did they transfer you to?" She asks me seriously now.

"Somewhere in the National City division. Apparently they have a large division somewhere hidden outside the city and a smaller division within the city. It's practically just me. But hey I get a building to myself so I'm fine with that." I say to her.

"National city is a lot better than here." She says truthfully.

"Anywhere is better than Gotham. But I hear there is a lot more alien activity so I think I'm fine with that." I tell her shrugging. "It's about time I switch it up." I say.

"Oh so you're still going to get the fun cases." She says huffing out and rolling her eyes and I chuckle. "Well." She says teasingly and I look back at her with an eyebrow raised. "Want to go another round. You know. One for the road." She says and I put my cigarette out in the ashtray.

So this was National City. Talia was right when she said it was nothing like Gotham. People seemed happier here. It was annoying. I wasn't one for too happy and too preppy people. It pissed me off to no end. I think living in Gotham for so long made me that way. The only exception was my best friend Kenzie. She made it clear that I was stuck with her and couldn't ever get rid of her.

I pull up to the location my chief gave me and it looks like an old law firm or old P.I. office. I grabbed a few boxes stacked them and went for the door. I took the key out and opened it instantly finding the light switch.

I was correct. I would be the only one here. That made it better and easier for me. I hated people. Unless you were a client or a fuck buddy I couldn't give two shits about you. I set my stuff down then go to the car and bring back the rest.

I take a good look around and realize there is an area for a receptionist and that might make it easier for me. There was only one person I could think of working for me and that is unfortunately Kenzie. She doesn't exactly have a stable job so this might be good for her and I know for a fact that she would live with me. Again.

I put open up the boxes and start putting things up where I think they should go. The last thing I had was my plaque. 'Jordan Reeves Paranormal Investigator'. That was a title I worked so hard for and I'm proud of it. The best part was that I got to do my own thing. Once I was done I decided to call Kenzie.

"Yellow." She says loudly and I wince.

"Ears.." I tell her and she giggles, I roll my eyes. "I have an offer." I tell her and I already knew that she was going to accept either way.
