I can't believe I was doing this. I sighed as I stood in the elevator waiting to get to the top floor of catco magazine. Talia had sent over all the files that she wanted me to give to Kara. I was honestly too lazy to even read the files so I didn't know what they were about. I hated to admit this but I was nervous seeing her not as supergirl anymore but as Kara. There was no way I was going to let her get away with her stupid disguise though.
I hear a ding and the doors slide open. I step out and I'm met with many people rushing around. God I hated people. I stop one guy. He looks like a nerd. "Hey, you." I yell over to him and he nervously walks over to me. "Where can I find Kara Danvers?" I ask him impatiently.
"Um. Who are you?" He asks me and I move my coat over to flash him my badge that was clipped onto my pants.
"Detective, Reeves. Kara?" I ask him.
"Oh okay. I'm W-." I cut him off as I didn't care about who this man was. I just needed to find Kara and get the hell out of here.
"I didn't ask. Where is Kara?" I ask him getting impatient. He gulps nervously and roll my eyes. Pathetic.
"Kara is over there in her office." He says smiling and walking away. I go into the direction he pointed me to and knocked on the door.
"Come in." I hear a soft voice say. I open the door and I still. I was wrong. This Kara wasn't the same from high school no this Kara was grown up. She was incredibly beautiful with her hair pinned up, perfect pink lips, a navy blue cardigan over a button up shirt and dress pants. Kara Danvers was still the most beautiful person in the universe. Nothing would ever change that. This was the first time I had seen Kara in normal clothes and I certainly hope that it's not the last. "Hey, can I help you?" She asks smiling.
Instead of answering her I look around her office. It's very her. Very nerdy if that's the word I'm looking for. But in an adorable way. She has a few pictures up of herself with her family. I notice one picture in particular. Kara was much younger in this picture and she was sitting against a tree with her head in a book. She was oblivious to the world. I remember when this was taken because I took the picture. I'm suddenly flooded with anger and sadness. You can remember this picture but you can't remember me. It's bittersweet I guess. "Hey are you okay?" Kara says now closer to me.
"Oh yeah sorry." I say looking down at her. "So this is your day job?" I ask her and she looks at me in confusion. I also sense slight panic. I think I like teasing her.
"How do you feel about superheroes, miss Danvers?" I ask her looking back at the photos she has placed everywhere.
"I'm sorry but who are you?" She asks me trying to play it off but I already caught her.
"Have people never seen your pictures side by side?" I asks her now looking into her blue eyes.
"I'm sorry what?" She asks me.
"A side by side picture of you and supergirl?" I said smirking and I can see the panic as her eyes widen.
"I don't know what you mean" She says getting nervous.
"You don't have to lie to me. I knew who you were the moment I first saw you." I admit to her. She didn't have to know that I didn't recognize her as a supergirl though but as my long lost friend. Or whatever she was to me back then. "Is it hard?" I ask her looking at her once again and she tilts her head slightly in confusion. There's her adorable side coming out again. And I still hate myself for feeling like this around her.
"Is what hard?" She asks me and it takes everything in me to not make a sex joke.
"Being a hero while still having a normal job?" I ask her seriously.
