Chapter 9

I'm in the back room office with Kenzie. I don't know why on earth she pulled me back here but here we are I guess. "Jordan, you have to control your temper. They don't know." She tells me.

"Be cryptic, will you. Kara can hear everything." I tell her widening my eyes. I didn't want her to say anything I wasn't ready to spill yet.

"How is it that the 'you know who' can't figure it out." I slapped my head in annoyance.

"Very fucking cryptic, Kenz." I say sarcastically.

"Did you ever ask yourself why the light of your life doesn't remember?" She asks me and I sigh out.

"Kenz. I swear to god." I say to her and she laughs. "I actually have. The whole thing is weird. I'm starting to think that something more happened that we don't know about." I say to her and I see her face light up. Here we go again.

"Sooooo. We should investigate. You know how much we like stuff like this." She says to me and I think about it. I do love a good mystery.

"You don't think it's wrong?" I ask her and she widens her eyes.

"I think Kara is turning you." She gasps out. "Since when do you care?" She asks me.

"Yeah, you're right. Let's do it." I tell her and she smiles.

"Kenzie and Bo back at it like old times." She tells me and I laugh.

"I haven't heard that name in a long time." I tell her.

"I miss the old days of investigating the fae." Dammit Kenzie.

"Kenz! Keep your voice down, damn." I scold her.

"Sorry." She says quietly and like she just got in trouble.

"Come on, let's go back we need to come up with a plan." I tell her. I grab her hand and we head back to the main room. I'm pretty sure that Kara was listening to us because the girls are trying to act normal but are failing miserably.

"We're holding hands." Kenzie says like a child and I immediately let go.

"So what's the fae?" Alex blurts out and Kara glares at her. Kenzie just had to open her big flapping mouth.

"It doesn't matter. What does matter is this case. We need a solid plan to get in. I think Kenz and I should do the tour that we were talking about the other day. Kenzie is great at being a distraction so while she's doing whatever I can break away from the group and snoop around. I'm not sure that the kidnapping is a great idea anymore." I tell the group. Alex decides to speak up.

"I don't think you should go in there alone. What if you do get kidnapped? We don't know what kind of tech they have in there." Alex asks. Kenzie and I share a knowing look. I don't think it's the right time to tell them just yet.

"Fine. How about either you or Kara join us." I tell them.

"I guess Kara because if something goes south she's already inside." Alex says.

"Okay then it's settled." Before I could say anything else my phone goes off. I look at the caller ID and see that it's my boss. "Hello." I say into the phone.

"You got another vic. It's something you really need to see. Go check it out. I'll send you the details." He says and I hang up. "Pause on the plan. We got another victim." I tell the girls. "Let's go."

This isn't good. Someone is catching on to us which means we have to move fast with the plan. This body isn't laid like the others. This time instead of just a matchbox there was a cigarette too. The killer was getting sloppy. Maybe even desperate. There were cuts that spelled out 'stop digging'.
