To understand why reapers and wielder a fight, up have to know the history behind us, and why we are made the way we are. It was in the earliest centuries when mankind had first came into being, we were born into a world of nature and wild spirits, the animals and the spirits lived in harmony to each other, but as a new being the humans had not fit into the chain of life. The Indians were the first to learn the ways of the spirits, only now do we know the great beasts with power over the earth itself was the first familiars, strong enough to alter the world itself. The Indians worshiped them, but shaman were the first to communicate with them, they acted as translators to the spirits, as well as becoming the first wielders in this region of the world. On the other side of the globe, ancient cultures were slowly starting to follow the spirits as well learning of their teachings, and the lived in a prosperous time of peace with them. Humans evolved and adapted, and though it meant that their civilizations could grow, the ha turned their backs on the familiars they had come to follow. Lessons of the familiar were lost for generations, until early European culture, when old hags of the swamp made deals with them to be protected from attack by the barbarians that roamed the land. Those who chose to befriend the familiars and live along side of them developed a connection to nature, and in so they gained powers over it. The magic learned through the familiars went from one person to the next in the family line, until new English times, when the Church of England had moved to the American colonies, and discoveries of the wielders led to redicule and death, it was the time of the Salem witch hunts, when countless wielders and familiars were put to death. Killing a familiar spirit is never a wise choice, the ones who did so began to be filled with darkness and hatred, to such a point were there very souls began to rot, a consequence of this led to the birth of reapers. A reaper is a soulless vessel, they were once human but no longer can be called that, the only way they can survive is feeding off of the familiars they have so hated, a side effect of this is their face and form begin to darken, and takes on the form of darkness, now the reapers born during the witch hunts were not the first, reapers have existed since the first wielders have, and the hideous shapes the take have started stories of demons and monsters, some of then retain humanoid shape, and others lose themselves to the darkness entirley. The job of the wielders isn't to control the familiars, nor is it to be protected by them, a wielder is a living contract between the two worlds, a wielder fights to protect the human and familiar worlds, and the familiar protects and fights along side of them, this is the way of our existence. Not all wielders are the same, they are generally in a few categories, a witch is one who's ability in magic is strong, a familiar knight is one who's combat is so skilled that they very rarely have to rely on magic, the final is a guardian, a wielder who was not born as a wielder, but have passed through the worlds and grew a connection to them. The sub categories are numerous; grim, whisper, spirit caller, aura seeker, clairvoyant, ect. They are the different forms in which the powers are gifts to them, no two wielders are exactly the same, though most skills can be shared by all, very few can obtain them, especially the unique abilities only know by the wielder who has it. This is what it means to be a wielder, and to fight for what you believe in, or even some who don't fight at all.
