Three days later, the new recruits began to board the buses that would take them to their assigned units. Hao Yi and his companion were the last to leave the new recruits' company because, surprisingly, the Ninth Maintenance Company hadn't sent a bus to pick them up. The two of them stood at the base gates with their luggage for a long time, watching other new recruits leave one by one, but the bus never arrived. The longer they waited, the more frustrated they became.

"Hey, what's going on? Your unit didn't send a bus to pick you up?" Sreek, who was nearby, walked over and mocked them gleefully: "Your unit is responsible for repairing so many tanks and motorcycles, they could easily send one to pick you up, so why haven't they?" After the new recruits were assigned, Hao Yi and his companion were no longer under Sreek's command.

Although he could no longer torment these two troublemakers who always defied him, seeing their disappointed faces still filled Sreek with schadenfreude.

"Sergeant!" Hao Yi, who had been wearing a worried look, suddenly had an idea when he saw Sreek approaching. He turned around and unexpectedly hugged Sreek, bursting into tears.

Before hugging Sreek, Hao Yi's large bag fell from his hand, landing right on Sreek's right foot.

"Ouch!" Sreek's right foot was suddenly hit, and as he was about to grab his foot in pain, he was suddenly hugged by Hao Yi. He froze for a moment, then tried to break free from Hao Yi's embrace, ready to curse.

However, Hao Yi continued to wail, "Sergeant, I'm sorry! I always defied you during training, but you patiently instructed me without holding a grudge. I really... boohoo!" His seemingly heartfelt remorse even moved Sreek a bit, and he couldn't help but pat Hao Yi's shoulder, comforting him, "It's okay, it's okay. Do well in your unit, I believe you have a bright future!"

"Yes, Sergeant!" Hearing this, Hao Yi immediately released Sreek, saluted him with a standard military salute, and shouted loudly. As he saluted, he stomped his right foot, right on Sreek's left foot. After stomping, Hao Yi quickly grabbed his bag and sprinted away like a wild hare (note, this is the third appearance of a wild hare in the book), shouting to Hu Erpang, "Erpang, run!"

"Ouch!" Sreek's right foot was still in pain from being hit by the bag, and now his left foot was stomped by Hao Yi's military boots, causing him to sit on the ground wailing in pain.

"Huh?" Hu Erpang was initially stunned, then looked at the writhing Sreek on the ground, quickly grabbed his own bag, and ran like a wild boar, shouting, "Hao Yi, wait for me!"

"Hao Yi! If you have the guts, come back here! I'll break your legs!" Sreek's iconic roar came from afar as Hao Yi and Hu Erpang ran away.

"Do you think I'm that stupid? Heh heh!" Hao Yi cursed as he ran out of the valley where the base was located.

"Hao Yi!" Hu Erpang caught up, panting, and said, "I, I..."

"Erpang, you really haven't improved. Running five kilometers of cross-country for two or three months was all in vain! What do you want to say?" Hao Yi patted Hu Erpang's shoulder and laughed. Indeed, during the three months of new recruit training, the two were the best in the company at running five kilometers cross-country. Once they started running, they could leave the other new recruits far behind. This was thanks to Sreek's "special attention." Think about it, if every time you ran cross-country, a sergeant was chasing you with various weapons, you would run like a wild hare too.

"No, it's not that, Hao Yi. I wanted to ask where we're going next. Where is the Ninth Maintenance Company?" Hu Erpang asked Hao Yi after catching his breath.

"Uh..." Hearing Hu Erpang's question, Hao Yi's eyes widened in confusion, and the excitement of tricking Sreek instantly vanished.

Other new recruits had their units send buses to pick them up, but Hao Yi and his companion hadn't seen anyone from the Ninth Maintenance Company. Even if they had to report on their own, they at least needed to know where the unit was. Thinking of this, Hao Yi quickly took out the transfer order to check, but it didn't specify the location of the Ninth Maintenance Company, leaving Hao Yi's mind blank.
