Chapter 9 - Chloe and Red's First Date

Red and Gianna's dorm
Red: Okay. Easy on the blush. I don't want to scare her away... Not that I could.
[Gianna is doing Red's makeup.]
Gianna: Please. My mom taught me how to apply blush before I could talk. Always upward strokes.
Red: My mom was never really... big on makeup tips. I never had a sister.
Gianna: Well, now you do. We're going to need all the family we can get if we don't pull this off.
My mother isn't a barrel of laughs when she doesn't get her way. Just ask Rapunzel.
Red: Are you afraid of your mom?
Gianna: Sometimes. Are you afraid of your mom?
Red: I... I just really want her to be proud of me... She gets so angry with me when I disappoint her. And sh... yeah, she's my mom, so I know she loves me... In her own way.
Gianna: Moving on. [Gianna, prompts Red to look at herself in the mirror.] Come see.
Red: Are we done?
Gianna: Yeah
Red: Oh. [Red is stuck staring at her own reflection.]
Gianna: I know.
Red: I look...
Gianna: Say it.
Red: Not hideous
Gianna: Not even close.
[Chloe knocks and the door, and Red answers]
Chloe: For the first time, I understand the difference between pretty and beautiful.
[Red finds herself feeling an emotion she has never felt before, causing a pink hue to appear on her cheeks. As she takes Chloe's hand. Chloe leads Red out of the dorm. Gianna smiles as she closes the door behind them]

The Forest
[They are walking around the forest together.]
Chloe: Tell me something about yourself that you've never told anyone.
Red: Um... My hair isn't really red.
Chloe: What? Really?
Red: Yeah. It's naturally pink. Just my mom doing what she does best. Being really, really controlling.
Chloe: She's really hard on you. Isn't she?
Red: Yeah, she is. I try my best to tolerate and meet her expectations.
Chloe: I get that. I feel like when I become Queen, I won't be what my parents want me to be, what my kingdom needs me to be.
Red: How noble. [Red teases her for being so royal like]
Chloe: I mean, you know how it is. You're a princess too after all.
Red: I've never even seen my kingdom. I've never felt like a princess.
Chloe: I hope you can go see Wonderland, maybe we could... together.
[Chloe turns a pink hue suggesting the adventure of Wonderland to Red]
Red: Yeah.. together. [Red feels that unfamiliar emotion once more, confused by its presence. She is stuck staring at Chloe, not realizing she is about to fall over].
Chloe: It would be... Watch out! Red! [Chloe catches Red as she trips over a rock. They both blush].
Chloe: Are you okay?
Red: Mm-hmm
Chloe: Now, step up. There you go.
[Chloe leads her to the enchanted lake and they sit down to have a picnic]
Chloe: Is this your first time?
Red: Mm... We don't really date much on the island. It's more like... Gang activity
Chloe: [Chloe giggles] Um, I meant, is this your first time eating a jelly donut.
Red: Is it bad?
Chloe: You got a.. [points to her own face and Red tries to wipe the crumbs from her face] Just a.. [Chloe gently wipes Red's face for her, Red catched herself staring at Chloe again.]
Red: You can't take me anywhere, I guess.
Chloe: You know, I've done all the talking. Your turn. I really don't know that much about you. Tell me something.
Red: Well, I'm 16. I have one sibling, my brother, And I've only ever lived in one place.
Chloe: Me, too.  We have so much in common already.
Red: No. Trust me, we do not... And now you're going to be queen.
Chloe: Yeah.
Red: What?
Chloe: A crown doesn't make you a queen.
Red: Well, it kind of does.
Chloe: No, It... Your mother is a tyrannical queen, and I've got the poster parents for goodness. But we're not automatically like them. We get to choose who we're gonna be. And right now, I can look into your eyes and I can tell you're not evil. I can see it... Let's go for a swim.
Red: Hm? What? Uh... Right now?
Chloe: Yeah, right now.
Red: I think I'm just gonna stay here
Chloe: No, no, no. Come on.
Red: I think I'm gonna stay behind and try a cherry. I've literally never tried a cherry before.. [Red eats a cherry] Mm! Mm.. [She is immediately obsessed with the cherries].
Chloe: [She giggles] Don't eat all of them.
Red: Okay.. Ooh! Mm. [She continues to eat the cherries.] Are those little swords on your swimsuit?
Chloe: Maybe. [Chloe jumps into the lake]
Red: [A million thoughts run through her head. Unsure about what she is feeling towards Chloe. If only she knew what her heart was telling her.] What is this feeling... [She whispers to herself lost in thought] Am i going crazy.. Maybe.. Could this really work? Me and her.. [She mumbles to herself. Would Chloe really stay with her when the magic potion wears off, or is Red dreaming. Red snaps out of it when she realizes Chloe has been gone a while.]
Red: Chloe? Chloe? Chloe! [Red screams trying to find her as she jumps into the lake to find her. After a moment Chloe appears in the water and holds Red in her arms.]
Red: Ugh! You scared me! [Chloe places red down on the blanket]
Chloe: You... you can't swim?
Red: No!
Chloe: You live on an island!
Red: Yeah, with a barrier around it, remember? Ugh!
Chloe: And you still tried to save me.
Red: Yeah. And do you thank me? No! All I get is soaking wet!
Chloe: And uh, this fancy rock. It's yours. [Chloe hands her a shiny rock she fished from the bottom of the lake.] Make a wish and throw it back in the lake.
[Red frustratingly chucks the rock into the lake. Chloe wraps Red in her blue cardigan after drying her with a towel]
Chloe: Uh, Red... I told you that I loved you. What about you? Do you love me?
Red: I don't know what love feels like.
Chloe: Maybe I can teach you
