A very long time ago, humans feared Magical Creatues because they have no concept of magic or creature behavior. They would settle in areas away from Magical Creature activity. This perception shifted when Unica Hart discovered a method to train unicorns. Although many believed she had successfully done so, some still feared them. Everyone who was curious, begged her on how she did it.
To further pass down her knowledge, she established a school for Unicorn Trainers/Riders. Unicron Academy. (Est. 1101 AD) School became popular and succesful as many people managed to bond with unicorns. Thus, producing more Unicorn Trainers/Riders. And the fear of Magical Creatures was not a big concern anymore because they have Unicorns by their side.
7 years later (1108), Draelyn Gondal, proposed the idea that dragons can be tamed and trained, just like Unicorns. Unica and her Unicorn trainers thought it was funny because dragons are dangerous and are feral giant reptiles. But Draelyn proved them wrong. He rode a dragon he trained infront of Unica and her trainers.
So Unica accepted Draelyn's idea. And her school is shared with Draelyn's dragons. Unicorn Academy renamed to be Unidrago Academy. And it started to have Dragon Trainers/Riders. Unidrago became even more popular as you can not only train unicorns, dragons also. The popularity of the academy reached lands outside and far. Hipgriffo High was established by the influence from Unidrago. They found a way to train hippogriffs and griffins thanks to the academy.
4 years later (1112), Phoenicle Elrod introduced Phoenixes. Unica and Draelyn accepted it too. The academy was renamed to DraPhoeCorn. However, they notice there aren't much Phoenix Trainers than Unicorn and Dragon trainers. Students mostly get either dragons or unicorns as their creature. The 3 thought maybe Phoenixes are harder to train. Fortunately, Phoenicle figured out the lacking of Phoenix Trainers was because phoenixes only chose the purest of heart.
When the founders died, they had a statue of them placed in the center of the Academy, so newer generations can remember them.
