Jack strolled into the dimly lit bookstore, the scent of aged paper and ink greeting him like an old friend. He'd been here countless times before, but today felt different. There was a buzz in the air, a sense of anticipation that made his heart flutter. The shelves stretched tall and wide, laden with tomes that whispered secrets of the universe in a hundred different tongues. The bell above the door jingled as Sam, Dean, Bobby, Cas, and Jody trailed in behind him, their footsteps echoing softly on the creaky hardwood floor.
"Mr. Castellanos?" Jack called out into the quiet, his voice carrying an unusual blend of confidence and hesitation. The others looked at him, curiosity piqued.
He emerged from the back.
Mr. Castellanos looked guilty. His eyes darted around the room as if searching for an escape before finally landing on Jack. The lines on his face deepened as he recognized him, his expression a mix of surprise and wariness. He hastily straightened the book he'd been holding, which had been crumpled in his grip. The air grew thick with tension, and the whispers of the books grew silent.
"Jack," Mr. Castellanos said, his voice tight. "What brings you here?"
Jack took a deep breath. "Sydney," he replied, the single word hanging in the air like a heavy weight.
"You opened a rift where Lucifer and her fell trough. How did you did that?", asks Dean in a demanding tone.
Mr. Castellanos's gaze darted to the group behind Jack, and he swallowed hard. "It was an accident," he confessed, his voice wavering. "I wanted to get rid of Lucifer. I didn't mean for it to happen."
Sam stepped forward, his eyes narrowed. "An accident? You're telling us you just stumbled upon the means to rip open a rift to another dimension and sent one of the most dangerous beings we know through it?"
Mr. Castellanos nodded vigorously, his hands shaking. "Yes, yes, I swear. I was... I was just trying to find a way to banish him permanently, and it went wrong."
Bobbys eyes searched Castellanos, looking for any sign of deceit. "And Sydney? What happened to her?"
Jack's chest tightened at the mention of her name. "Lucifer pulled her through," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. The words hung in the air, heavy with pain.
"She punched him because he killed her parents," Jack said, his voice clear and firm amidst the clamor. The room fell silent as everyone turned to stare at him, their movements frozen. The words hung in the air, a sudden revelation that seemed to suck the oxygen from the room.
Jody's eyes widened, her grip on her coffee mug tightening until her knuckles turned white. "What?" she exclaimed, her voice rising above the murmur of shock that followed. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. It was like a punch to the gut, and she found it hard to breathe.
Jack met her gaze, his expression a mix of regret and resolution. "It's true," he said, his voice low and steady. "He was the one who killed them. He told us before they fell trough the rift."
A murmur of disbelief swept through the group, but Jack's words had the ring of truth to them. He took a deep breath and continued, "They were protecting us from something far worse than we ever could've imagined. Mark and Sarah were the first to fight back. They gave their lives to keep us safe."
Lucifer's name left a bitter taste in the air, the very mention of it making the hairs on the back of their necks stand up. The room grew colder, as if the heat of their anger had been sucked away by the revelation. They all knew of the ancient tales of the demon who had once ruled the underworld, the one who had been cast out by the gods themselves.
