Chapter 30: Regret

Once Kai had entered the ambulance he immediately passed out. His body had been put through a lot. His fight with muscular, being smashed into a wall by Mahoraga, being somewhat healed which drained his stamina, and landing a black flash once more. Kai awoke a few days after the life-or-death battle. It was currently late a night. After he woke up he remained in the hospital to "rest up" as the doctors would say. But based on the alternating pair of Heroes that would stand by his door, made Kai think they wanted to make sure the league wouldn't come after him. Kai tiredly gazed at the TV watching the replay of that fight. It seemed to be all they played in this hospital. He watched as Mahoraga tore through several buildings while fighting All For One. The blood, the injured, the dead. Mahoraga caused that. He summoned Mahoraga. Those deaths fall on him.

(News Reporter): As we speak, the VIllain who created that dastardly Nomu is being taken into custody..

A clip is shown of All For One covered head to toe in Quirk suppressant equipment. He was led into a police van.

(Kai) Thoughts: They think Mahoraga is related to the league.

Which made sense since his uncle immediately made a statement informing the entirety of Japan that Mahoraga was a failed Nomu that went rogue. The lie was bought and that is what everyone believed. There were a handful of people who knew about Mahoraga's true origins. Toshinori, Toji, Tsukauchi, the league, and himself. Kai knew he'd receive an unimaginable amount of hate if it was revealed that Mahoraga was in actuality his Quirk. He looks down at his hands. They were covered in blood. There was so much blood. it began cascading down like a waterfall.

(Kai) Thoughts: A part of me wishes that everyone knew it was me. I don't deserve to get off scot-free... I killed so many people...

Kai gazed at the TV once more. A large crowd of people were at a cemetery. They all stood in front of a large tombstone which had hundreds of names on it. Kai wanted to be there. He wanted to apologise to the dead. He wanted to apologise. to the families of the deceased, but he couldn't. He was confined to the hospital and was told not to talk about Mahoraga at all. Not until it blew over. Kai doubts anyone will ever forget. The internet has called that tragic night "The Kamino Incident". It seemed to be a popular title as all media platforms have started using the name.

(???): You seem to be deep in thought young Kai.

Kai turns his head to gaze at his uncle, who had bandages in various places. They shared a room. They'd have more people in here but this is a private room. Kai could only imagine what the rest of the hospital was like.

(Kai): Just tired. How are you feeling Uncle Yagi?

Toshinori smiled tiredly.

(Toshinori): I'm feeling exhausted as well, but I'm doing well.

Kai hummed and then asked a question that had been burning in his mind for the past few hours he'd been awake.

(Kai): How long until you go back to Hero work?

Toshinori lost his smile and took on a serious expression.

(Toshinori): I won't be. That fight drained all of my power...

He lowers his head not noticing Kai's wide-eyed expression.

(Toshinori): My Quirks gone. All Might will be retiring. I'm just waiting to announce it.

Toshinori raised his head. Kai adopted a neutral expression.

(Kai): And dad?

(Toshinori): Your father only had some minor injuries. That body of his is very resilient. It took one kiss from Recovery Girl and he was good to go. He's currently on patrol. It's only been a few nights but things have started getting a lot less quiet on the streets. Your father will probably be really busy for a while.
