Jay stood frozen, his breath held, heart pounding in his chest. A moment ago, he had been certain—prepared to give the young prince his answer. But now, with Sunoo standing before him, all certainty drained away. The prince's presence filled the room, his elegant frame draped in a flowing nightgown, violet eyes gleaming in the dim light.

Sunoo stepped closer, his gaze never leaving Jay's. "By the look on your face, I assume you've already read my letter?" His voice was soft but commanding.

Jay nodded quickly, his fingers tightening around the crumpled letter still clutched in his hand.

A faint smile tugged at the corners of Sunoo's lips. "What is your reply, then?"

Jay swallowed hard, his nerves steeling as he straightened his posture. "Yes."

Sunoo raised an eyebrow, his head tilting slightly in confusion. "What?"

Jay couldn't help but chuckle, finding the prince's slight confusion endearing. "My answer, Your Highness—it's yes."

Sunoo's eyes lit up, and for a moment, it looked as if he might clap in excitement but restrained himself. "That makes me really happy, teacher. It really does."

Bowing deeply before the young prince, Jay spoke with genuine warmth, "It makes me even happier, Your Highness."

A few days ago.

Sunoo signed the paper, his hand trembling, eyes glossy with tears threatening to spill. He bit down on his lip hard, leaving a bruise at the corner, struggling to keep his composure. Silently, he handed the document to the man before him. The man accepted it with a gentle smile, though his eyes held a hint of sympathy.

"Your Highness," the man began, his voice soft, "it's a shame you have to leave the academy. It's rare for someone your age to make such significant progress in the study of magic."

Sunoo pressed his lips together, forcing down the ache in his throat. "It is truly a shame," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Without another word, he turned and left the room. As he walked through the familiar halls of the academy, each step felt heavier, like he was dragging the weight of the past behind him. He inhaled deeply, his chest tight, trying to take in everything for one last time. He didn't want to carry only sorrow with, but leaving behind everything that he cherished made the void inside him grow wider.
