I finish making my rounds and realize I have Michael up next. I go gather what I need for him and enter the room. "Good afternoon Mr. Scofield."
"Hello." he replies back.
"How are you feeling today?" I ask as I walk over to him and sit down on the stool next to him.
I notice he has a bandaid above his eye. "What happened?"
"Oh, caught an elbow playing basketball." he says.
"Uh huh. Mind if I take a look?" I doubt it was basketball.
"By all means." he says lowly. Flirting once again, and it's getting to me once again too.
I take the bandaid off and see he's all banged up. Concerned for him I say, "You know you're going to get killed in here right? If you're not careful."
He doesn't care, he eyes me as I clean his wound and says, "I'll make you a bet, when I get out of here, I'll take you to dinner. Lunch. Cup of coffee."
As much as I'd enjoy that, he can't be like this. So I tell him that his charm act could be why he's getting in trouble.
I put a butterfly bandaid on him and send him on his way.
...
Few days later I'm walking into work and want to chat with Michael. "You got a minute?" I ask.
"About five years worth." he jokes.
I laugh, "Right, sorry." I move on to what I wanted to say to him. "You never said Lincoln Burrows was your brother."
"Never came up." he replies.
"Right, I'm curious if that isn't because of my dad? The governor? He may not be the one pulling the switch on your brother but you and I both know he has the power to grant clemency but he won't. And he never does."
"My old man was an abusive drunk who abandoned his family. I don't judge anybody by their father's actions, nor inactions. If that was your concern."
"Just so you know, Michael, I don't agree with his politics. I'm sorry about your brother."
"I appreciate that."
I walk off, but then I think of a way for Michael to see his brother. "I have to give Lincoln a weekly checkup now, if you want, I can schedule those visits to end right before you come in for your shots. That way, you could at least see each other even if it's just in passing."
"Thank you."
We hold sincere eye contact before I walk off to get to work.
...
I'm walking in to help patients when Bellick suggests that the patient I'm on my way to see is faking heat exhaustion. "That your medical opinion?"
"There's also a bunch of overheated cons getting loud in A Wing." he informs me.
"I don't blame them it's an oven in there."
