As I'm making my way to give Michael his shot, I see Bellick questioning him harshly about his wife.
He's calling her a stripper whore.
I've had enough of his nasty comments about her and cut him off, "Officer Bellick."
"Captain." he corrects me.
"Fine." I say, I don't really care what his title is. "Would you mind conducting your inquisitions at a later time? I have a schedule to maintain."
"Excuse me Doctor." he says, taking his hat off. "I'm just asking Mr. Scofield about the contraband he had his stripper wife truck in the other day."
"But you go ahead, your jobs more important." he says sarcastically as puts his hat back on and leaves.
I place the tray with his shot and insulin down as I sit on a stool.
Michael tries to make conversation, "He's had it out for me since the day I got here."
"Hold still please." I say. He has a wife, I am just his doctor.
I reach for his arm, since he has his hand covering his mouth, and rub some alcohol in the area I will give him his shot.
He tries to explain him being married again, "I only married her so she could get her green card."
"I saw you coming out of the conjugal room." That's not simply marrying for a green card.
"It's just business." he replies.
"You don't have to explain anything to me." I state.
"I know." he pauses. "But I want to."
I look into his eyes for a moment to see if he's telling the truth before I get up and leave. He is.
...
I'm patching up a cut on Michael's arm later. I always seem to be patching him up.
He seems to have noticed that too, saying, "It feels like you've been the cleanup crew for me the whole time I've been in here. Toes, contusions, insulin shots.."
"Well, somebody has to do it." I simply state.
"I'm grateful." he replies.
"You ever think in another life.."
"I won't be that woman, Michael." I cut him off.
"I wasn't asking you to be." he replies looking up at me. "But it is something to wonder about. What if..?"
"Anyway, just wanted to make sure it was said." he finishes.
"Why do I feel like you're saying goodbye?" I question.
He smirks, "I don't know. Guess in a place like this you never know which day is gonna be your last."
I'm about to reply when Katie interrupts, "Adelyn, we got a back up out here."
I finish wrapping his arm. "You're set."
"I'm sorry about your brother." I remember hearing that Lincoln got locked up in solitary confinement.
Michael just makes eye contact instead of saying anything. So I go to leave.
"Doctor.." he says as he caresses the bottom of my forearm. He then holds my hand as he looks back up at me.
