The grand hall of the Canterlot palace was silent, the atmosphere heavy with the weight of what was about to transpire. King Cosmos stood at the far end, his gaze distant, while Queen Galaxia stood at his side, her face a mixture of solemnity and quiet resolve. Before them, bound in chains, knelt Duke Starfire and his remaining allies, their once-proud heads bowed in submission.

It had been days since the failed coup, and Canterlot had slowly begun to return to normalcy. The streets were once again bustling with life, and the citizens, though shaken, had embraced the victory with a cautious optimism. Yet, the final chapter of the rebellion had yet to be written.

Cosmos had been deliberating over his next move. The kingdom's wounds ran deep, and although the coup had been crushed, its shadow still loomed large over Canterlot. In order to secure the peace he and Galaxia had promised, there could be no lingering threat, no trace of rebellion left to fester.

The court had gathered for the final judgment. High-ranking nobles, military leaders, and trusted advisors stood in the chamber, their eyes fixed on the bound figures of Starfire and his allies. The tension in the air was palpable as all awaited the king's verdict.

Cosmos stepped forward, his voice steady but laced with the gravity of the moment. "Duke Starfire," he began, "you and your accomplices stand before this court, accused of treason against the crown and attempting to dismantle the peace of Canterlot. Your actions have endangered not only the stability of the kingdom but the lives of countless innocent citizens."

Starfire, once a figure of imposing arrogance, now appeared broken, his eyes cast downward. He had gambled everything and lost. There would be no redemption.

"I have thought long and hard about what must be done," Cosmos continued, his tone growing firmer. "In times such as these, mercy is a dangerous luxury. Peace cannot be built on the foundation of uncertainty and rebellion. In order to secure the future of Canterlot, those who seek to destroy it must be held accountable."

He paused, casting a somber glance toward Galaxia, who gave him a silent nod of encouragement. "Thus, I have come to a decision," Cosmos announced, his voice carrying through the hall. "Duke Starfire and his allies are hereby sentenced to death for their crimes against the crown and the people of Canterlot."

The silence that followed was deafening, as the words hung in the air. There were no protests, no pleas for mercy. The court had expected this, yet the finality of the sentence sent a shiver through those present. Duke Starfire, once a proud and powerful man, remained silent, knowing there was no escape from the fate he had sealed with his actions.

Cosmos turned to the guards, giving them a solemn nod. The guards stepped forward, ready to escort the prisoners to the place of execution. The moment marked the end of an era of internal strife, and the beginning of something new—a promise of peace, though won through harsh measures.

Later that evening, King Cosmos found himself alone in his chambers, staring out over the city of Canterlot. The skyline was bathed in the golden hues of the setting sun, a symbol of the dawn of a new era. Yet, beneath the beauty of the moment, a deep uncertainty gnawed at him.

Though he had delivered the kingdom from the immediate threat, he knew that a deeper transformation was necessary to ensure that Canterlot would never again face such danger from within. The failed coup had exposed cracks in the foundation of the kingdom, and those cracks needed to be mended before they widened.

Galaxia entered the room, her presence a quiet comfort. "You're thinking about what comes next," she said softly, moving to stand beside him.

Cosmos nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Canterlot survived this, but it was too close. Our government, the way it functions... it's not enough to keep us safe from threats like Starfire. We need to change, to adapt."

"You're thinking of restructuring the government," Galaxia observed, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

"I am," Cosmos replied, turning to face her. "We need a system that's stronger, more resilient to internal threats. One where power isn't concentrated so much in the hands of a few, but where loyalty is rewarded and corruption rooted out before it can take hold."

Galaxia nodded, considering his words. "What do you have in mind?"

Cosmos sighed, the weight of leadership heavy on his shoulders. "A reorganization of the council, for one. Starfire had too much power as Duke, and his allies had too much influence. We need to ensure that power is more evenly distributed, with safeguards in place to prevent any one individual from amassing that much control again."

He paused, running a hand through his mane. "I also want to establish new positions—trusted advisors who represent the different regions of Equestria, so that the concerns of all are heard. A new government, with a more democratic structure."

Galaxia smiled at the thought. "A council of trusted voices, guiding Canterlot toward a brighter future. It's ambitious."

"It's necessary," Cosmos corrected gently. "We can't afford to cling to old ways. Starfire's rebellion taught us that. We need to evolve, or we risk being torn apart from within."

Galaxia placed a comforting hand on his arm. "And I will stand by your side, every step of the way. Together, we will build the Canterlot we've always dreamed of."

Cosmos smiled softly, his resolve strengthening. "Then it's settled. Tomorrow, I will begin the process of restructuring the government. We will create a kingdom that is not only strong but just, where the people can trust in their leaders, and where rebellion finds no foothold."

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the city in twilight, Cosmos and Galaxia stood united in purpose. They had weathered the storm and emerged stronger for it. With the trial and execution of Starfire behind them, and plans for a new government ahead, they were ready to lead Canterlot into an era of peace—one built on the foundations of justice, trust, and unity.

The long era of peace had begun, and with it, the hope for a better, stronger Canterlot.
