Life is not kind to those with great desires, nor those who lack them.
The line between curses and blessings are thin. Indeed, perhaps only the wise and the lunatics are able to roam free between this abstract line.
We were cursed with desires, yet it is this same blessed desire that chains us to life and keeps us from death.
As the saying goes: "The dose makes the poison"... The same should be said for desire. Hah. How much of it are you willing to take? How much pain are you willing to endure for the sake of your desires? Does the sweet taste of desire linger on your tongue and fade away into a bitter aftertaste? Or does it taste sweeter with time, tempting you towards insatiability and insanity? Will you let this desire become the medicine or poison you take?
It is easy to become a slave of what you desire and gain. Many don't realise that there is a thin line between being a master and being a slave of your desires.
Perhaps we are all prisoners of our own hearts, but that is much better than being imprisoned by the hearts of others. One must understand that the greatest blessing is to be able to choose one's own prison.
Is freedom complete control? Or is freedom a lack of control? Is there any freedom found in restraint and is there any freedom found in letting it all go? Tell me, does it matter at all in the end? Perhaps... we will never be free.
The first step towards freedom comes in understanding that we were born with chains, and that we will die bound by them. As Jean Jacques Rousseau once said, "Freedom is the power to choose our own chains."
You must acknowledge the chains that bind you down. You can't truly be free if you ignore the heavy weight of chains locking you down.
Desire will keep you alive, but too much of it will kill you. The right desires will help you grow and enjoy life, and the toxic ones will make you miserable. The crazy don't care much of it, the foolish seek the wrong things, while the wise use their desires to thrive.
What you need and what you want are two different things. Do you know the difference?
Life is the greatest prison we were born in, and death, the final prison.
