Chapter 19

John POV

"How do you think I look ?" Lilah asks me for the millionth time. "Baby if you ask me that again, we'll never make it to your dance thing." I say huskily.

She giggles and twirls a curl on her head. "Thank you for taking this night off for me. I know that Friday nights are your work nights." She says. And she's right, they are. But Christian said I work too hard and gave me a week off work, not that Lilah knows. She hates getting in between me and my work.

"You're worth it baby." I whisper into her ear and a delicious shiver covers her body. "We should get going then." She whispers as her hands slide down my suit jacket. I stop her quickly, not wanting for her to feel what's in my breast pocket.

"Okay." She says curiously.

We walk to the car and I open her door with a kiss on her mouth, feeling nervous for what's coming.

When I'm in the car I breathe in and out deeply, anxiety pouring off of me. "Babe are you okay ? You seem nervous. It's just my banquet, we can stay home if you want. I'll get my MVP award tomorrow or something." She says. "No it's fine, there's nothing wrong with going." Plus I have something planned with your coach. I add silently in my head.

"Okayy." She trails off and gives me a weird look.

When we get there, we walk into the hall they rented out for this night. Delilah smiles at her teammates and their family members. I walk over to where Tyler and Cece stand with our parents.

"Hey mom and dad." I say with a smile and hug them both.

"Oh John, I miss you so much !! It's a good thing Delilah cooks. I think you've gained some weight baby boy. Maybe you should work out more, other than coaching the boys team at the high school and-" my mom says but I interrupt her. "Mom, chill. I still work out on the weekends with Christian. And yes Delilah does cook." I say with a smile.

"Good, maybe we can go over for dinner sometime ? Like the whole family and Lilah's family." Cece says. "Yeah I'll ask her, she does most of the cooking." I say and lick my lips at the thought of my last dinner. I could eat her all night.

Lilah walks over and I wrap my arm around her waist. She kissed my cheek and goes to hug my mom and dad. "Thanks so much for coming even if it's just for Cece." She says jokingly. My parents laugh and they go off into conversation about what a great job they did with decorations.

After a few minutes, the coaches go stand in the stage and everybody sits in the seats provided.

About an hour into the awards and videos, the main coach gives me the look and I swallow nervously. I turn to Lilah and whisper into her ear, "I'm gonna go use the restroom, I'll be right back."

She nods her head and kisses my cheek.

I quickly walk around to the back of the stage where the flowers and gifts are. "Okay, after this video the slideshow we made for her will start and you walk out when the music starts." Coach Q says. I nod to him and hold the gifts and flowers.

After a few minutes, I hear the music start and I breathe deeply. "Go ahead man, you're perfect for each other." He says with a smile. I smile back and walk out on stage and immediately, all eyes are on me.

I grin brightly at Delilah as she looks at me confused. I grab the mic and sigh. It's finally gonna happen.

"Hey babe." I say and smile at Delilah. She smiles back and waves.

"Well, I know everybody is confused as to why I'm on stage, but some of you aren't because you already know why I'm here." I say and Tyler and his stepdad smile at me, while the rest of our families look confused.

"Lilah I love you. And there's no question about that. Ever since the day I met you, I knew you were the one. Which scared me. So I tried to distract myself from you, which was practically impossible. I mean, you were always there. Always. I couldn't stop thinking about you. And after our first kiss ?? I was a goner. It was just you and me against the world since then. You mean the world to me baby. And I wouldn't change a thing even if I could. You're mine, nobody else's. I need you everyday, I need you by my side everyday. I need you with me everyday, and forever." At the word forever she gives me a knowing and surprised look. One tear falls from her eye. Then 2 more, and more and more.

"So, to make this forever..." I say and trail off, getting down on one knee. She stands up and runs up to me. "YES !!! Yes yes yes yes." She says and picks me back up and hugs me tightly.

"Baby can I ask you the question ?" I say and everybody laughs in the crowd.

"I'm sorry, go ahead." She says laughing and wiping her tears away.

I get back on one knee, and take out the 20 carat diamond ring from my breast pocket.

"Delilah Anne Vasquez, will you do me the honor of marrying me and becoming my wife ?" I say and she smiles through her tears. "Yes yes yes yes yes !!!" She screams and I get up fast enough to catch her in my arms.

"I love you so much." She whisper into my ear as the whole crowd claps and cheers.

She's going to be mine.

I slide the ring on her finger and kiss our joined hands.

"I love you more baby."
