💖Author's POV💖

The next day they were back at the park sitting under their favorite tree again.... Nandini was drawing pictures in the dirt with a stick while Manik watched her with a soft smile on his face....

Manik : Nandu... do u think we will always be friends...

He aked suddenly making Nandini look up at him... she was surprised by his question......

Nandini : Of course...

she said without hesitation....

Nandini : Why wouldn't we be...

She asked while Manik just shrugged his shoulders with his expression thoughtful....

Manik : I don't know...  Sometimes people grow apart as they get older...

Nandini frowned at his reply and shook her head...

Nandini : Not us... We will always be best friends Manii.... I promise...

she said firmly while Manik smiled at her words feeling a warmth in his chest....

Ealier when she asked the same he was the one to promise to be her best friend forever... He always said... But now he is the one worried here....

After what happened yesterday he is scared she might leave him later.... He feels old compared to her.... He wonders if she will make friends her own age and if she might want to leave him behind....

Even though he himself is young he feels unsure and a sad.... correct word is that he is insecure....

But hearing her reply made him feel much better...He believed her... He couldn't imagine his life without Nandini.... She had been a part of it for so long and he knew she always would be....

As they continued to sit there enjoying the peaceful afternoon Nandini suddenly jumped up and grabbed Manik's hand....

Nandini : Lets play on the swings...

she said excitedly making Manik chuckle at her excitement and let her pull him over to the swing set....

Nandini hopped onto one of the swings and began to pump her legs swinging higher and higher.... Manik sat on the swing next to her pushing himself gently with his feet.....

As they swung side by side the sun began to set and Nandini's laughter filled the air as she tried to swing higher than Manik....

Manik : u are not going to beat me Nandu...

Manik called out playfully while Nandini shouted back with her eyes sparkling with determination....

Nandini : Yes...i will...

They spent the next few minutes trying to out-swing each other and their laughter echoed through the empty park....

Later as they walked back to home Nandini looked up at Manik and asked...

Nandini : Manik... why do u always take care of me...

Manik looked down at her, surprised by the question and thiught for a second and replied causally......

Manik : Because u are my best friend Nandu...I care about u...

Nandini smiled but there was a thoughtful look in her eyes...

Nandini : Do u ever get tired of it?

She asked quietly but when he gave her a confused look she continued.......

Nandini : Tired of always looking out for me?

Manik stopped walking and turned to face her, his expression serious and replied firmly....

Manik : Never... I will always be here for u Nandu.. . No matter what....

Nandini's smile grew wider and she reached out to take his hand said softly....

Nandini : Thank u Mani 

Manik smiled back and gave her hand a gentle squeeze and said...

Manik : u don't have to thank me.. Iam happy to do it....

They continued walking with Nandini's little hand was still tucked in Manik's and they walked in comfortable silence both feeling the unspoken bond that had grown between them over the years....

When they reached Nandini's house she turned to Manik and smiled....

Nandini : I will see u tomorrow...okay

Manik nodded and said with simle....

Manik : Yeah tomorrow...

Nandini waved at him before disappearing inside her house while Manik stood there for a moment watching the door close behind her....

A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he turned and started walking back to his own house....

He knew deep down, that no matter what the future held Nandini would always be a part of his life....

She wasn't just his best friend... she was his family his person.... And he would do anything to keep her safe and happy.....
