💖Author's POV💖

Manik was 16 now and Nandini had turned 13.... They had known each other for so long that everything between them felt natural.....

But lately something was changing..... Nandini noticed it first..... She felt different when she was around him..... she is now more aware of his presence.....

His voice sounded deeper and he had grown taller..... Sometimes when she looked at him her heart would beat a little faster.....

For Manik too it was the same... He would glance at her when she wasn't looking and see how much she had changed..... Nandini wasn't the little girl he used to protect.....

She was growing up and becoming more and more beautiful.... Her laughter was different now and more soft and sweet and every time she smiled at him he felt something warm in his chest.......

They still spent a lot of time together...... Manik would help Nandini with her schoolwork and they would go to the park on weekends like they always did.....

But there was something new in the air..... A kind of shyness they had never felt before..... It wasn't awkward but it was there so unspoken.....

One afternoon they were walking home from school together..... Manik was carrying Nandini's bag for her as he always did..... It had become a habit by now....

As they walked side by side their hands brushed against each other..... It was such a small thing but it made both of them stop for a moment....

Nandini's cheeks turned red and she looked down at the ground embarrassed.....

Manik felt a strange flutter in his chest....He had held her hand so many times when they were younger but now just the simple touch of her hand made him nervous.....

He didn't understand why but he liked the feeling..... After a few moments of silence Nandini softly reached out and held Manik's hand....

It was a natural move that something they had done countless times before but this time it felt different.....

Her little hand fitted perfectly in his slightly large ones and he could feel her warmth.... They walked like that for a while neither of them speaking both of them feeling the same nervous excitement....

Nandini's heart was beating so fast she thought he might hear it..... Manik squeezed her hand gently making her look up at him with a shy smile while e smiled back at her feeling his own heart race.....

They didn't need to say anything..... Just holding hands like this made everything feel right......

A few weeks later it was Nandinis birthday.... Manik had spent hours trying to figure out the perfect gift for her....

He finally decided on a bracelet something simple but pretty.... When he gave it to her she smiled so wide that it made his heart swell with pride.....

Manik : Do u like it Nandu...

he asked trying to sound casual while Nandini replied withher voice soft.....

Nandini : I love it Manii...

She slipped the bracelet onto her wrist and looked up at him....

Nandini : Thank u Manii.... Its perfect......

Manik felt a strange kind of happiness.... Not the kind he felt when they used to play games together as kids but something deeper.... It made him want to be close to her to protect her even more than before......

Later that day they were sitting in the park like they always did after school....

Nandini was playing with the bracelet on her wrist smiling to herself while Manik watched her quietly feeling something new in his heart.....He couldn't describe it but it felt good.....

Suddenly Nandini looked up at him with her eyes bright with excitement....

Nandini : Mani i forgot to tell u.... I got an A in my math test today....

Without thinking anything she jumped up and hugged him..... It was a quick hug just a moment of happiness but for both of them it felt like everything changed in that second.....

Manik froze for a moment feeling her arms around him and her head resting against his chest..... His heart was beating so fast he didn't know what to do.....

When Nandini pulled away her face was red and she looked embarrassed.....

Nandini : I am sorry...

she mumbled looking down at her feet while Manik shook his head quickly saying....

Manik : No... no its okay.... I am happy for u....

Nandini smiled still blushing... She had hugged him so many times before but this time it felt different.... She wasn't sure why but being close to him made her feel something new..... Something she had never felt before.....

They sat down again and for a while and neither of them spoke..... The air between them was full of unspoken feelings..... things they didn't quite understand yet but deep down they both knew that their friendship was changing, becoming something more......
