"But that's what I loved about you—you never gave up."

The evening over the Olympic village was slowly calming down. The sun had long set behind the horizon, and the first stars began to appear in the dark sky. The Olympic village, which buzzed with energy and movement during the day, now quietly rested. Athletes, after a long day of training and preparations for their big competitions, had retreated to their rooms to regain strength for the next day. It was one of those rare moments when the peace was almost palpable.

Willa sat on a bench in a secluded corner of the village. It was her favorite escape, where she could be alone with her thoughts. Dinner had passed quietly—not that she didn't want to talk, but she felt exhausted and lost in her own head after the entire day. Once night fell, she decided to step outside for a bit. She needed to breathe some fresh air and clear her mind. Sitting in silence, her eyes were fixed on the sky dotted with stars.

In these moments, everything seemed distant—the competitions, the training, the pressure she placed on herself. The stars were so incredibly calm, as if they had been there forever, untouched by human problems and worries. She gazed at them and felt her body gradually relax.

She heard footsteps but didn't lift her head. It was Mondo. She sensed his presence before he even approached. They had eaten dinner together, but when she left earlier, she had let him stay at the table with other team members. Now, out of the corner of her eye, she saw him stop and watch her for a moment before walking towards her. He didn't need to say anything; he knew his presence was enough of a comfort.

"Can I sit with you?" he asked softly when he reached the bench.

Willa glanced at him briefly and nodded. Without hesitation, Mondo sat down next to her, their shoulders lightly touching as he leaned back and also gazed up at the sky. Between them, there was a familiar, comfortable silence. He didn't need to speak for her to know that he understood. Somehow, he always managed this—being beside her without saying anything, yet making her feel he was truly there for her.

After a while, Willa took a deep breath and rested her head on his shoulder. It was a natural movement, almost reflexive, but in that moment, she was overwhelmed with a sense of relief. Mondo shifted slightly to make her more comfortable but remained silent.

"Do you remember our childhood?" Willa began after a moment in a quiet voice, still resting her head on his shoulder. Her gaze remained fixed on the stars, but her thoughts traveled far back in time when everything was simpler.

Mondo smiled, his eyes still on the night sky. "Of course I do," he replied. "It was great. Like we didn't have a care in the world."

Willa chuckled softly, but there was a touch of melancholy in her laugh. "Do you remember how we spent whole days running through the park, competing to see who could last the longest without a break?"
