"You've always been mine, Willa. And now you're acting like you belong to someone else."
~•~
Willa stood frozen in place, her eyes fixed on the javelin embedded in the ground at the far end of the field. Immediately after it landed, the stadium fell silent, and the air was charged with tension. The judges walked slowly toward the javelin to measure the distance, and each passing second felt like an eternity to Willa. Her heart pounded so loudly that she felt everyone around her must hear it.
She stood there, rigid and tense, barely breathing. She could feel her hands trembling as she awaited the verdict. This was the moment that would decide everything-the moment between success and failure, between fulfilled dreams and disappointment.
The judges finally reached the javelin and began to measure the distance. Willa watched as their measuring tapes extended further and further, slowly reaching a conclusion. She could hear murmurs from her competitors, and she knew they were watching every detail.
Suddenly, a voice came over the loudspeakers:
"Result: 68 meters and 75 centimeters! A new personal record!"
Willa froze for a moment. She couldn't believe it. 68 meters and 75 centimeters? It meant not only had she surpassed her previous record, but she had also won. She had won! She had earned Olympic gold!
Shock coursed through her body as she struggled to grasp the reality of what was happening. And then, as if all her energy, adrenaline, and emotions had converged in one moment, it exploded within her. Her face broke into a smile, her breath quickened, and her eyes sparkled with tears of joy. She, Willa, had just won Olympic gold!
Without hesitation, without a single word, she dashed toward the stands where her team was seated. Her legs carried her swiftly as she ran towards the person who was closest to her at that moment. It was like a magnet-she knew exactly where she was running, and at that moment, there was only one person she wanted to hug.
Mondo.
Her eyes found him immediately. He stood among their team, smiling from ear to ear, his eyes shining with pride. Willa didn't wait for anything. The air around her seemed to dissolve, and the world shrank to just the two of them. When she reached the stands, she leaped up the steps without hesitation and ran straight to him.
"Mondo!" she cried, her voice filled with joy and emotions she could no longer contain.
Mondo opened his arms, and she threw herself into his embrace with such force that she nearly knocked him off his feet. He held her tightly, his arms pressing her closer. Willa's heart still raced, and she felt tears of joy streaming down her cheeks. She didn't care about the people around her or the cameras watching. At that moment, it was just the two of them.
"You did it," Mondo whispered into her ear, his voice full of pride and relief.
"Yeah," Willa replied, almost disbelievingly. "I did."
