— KENZIE RONLAND was getting ready for the most tedious, sickening event of the day and for the next year. school. she couldn't believe that it was that time of the year. she only liked the part when she got ready and the time when the final bell rang.
as she was getting ready, she got a message from her best friend, telling her that she will be there at ten. now bailey along with alyssa were and are kenzie's best friends since forever.
she can still remember the nights when she and bailey were hanging at alyssa's house, having the best times. sometimes alyssa's younger brother benj was there but not that often.
benjamin nielsen. yeah kenzie thought he was cute and all but he was out of the picture. he was her best friend's brother. yes, she did kinda like him but she couldn't do more cause benj had another girl on her mind. bailey. it was a little bit obvious that he liked her.
"kenzie come on! bailey's here!" kenzie snapped out of her trance as she heard her mother's yells from downstairs. as she looked at herself in the mirror fixing her hair. when she liked what she was seeing, she grabbed her backpack and headed downstairs.
"come on, alyssa's waiting for us," bailey informed the girl. hearing that, kenzie nodded and shared her goodbyes with her mom and left along with bailey.
once they arrived at the nielsen's house, kenzie knocked at their front door waiting along with her best friend.
mrs nielsen opened the door, greeting both girls with that big smile of hers. "girls! oh my god hi! you both look amazing!" she complimented both girls as they entered.
"sup bailey?" the younger nielson greeted the girl, his complete attention on her, not noticing the other girl next to her. "hey benji boy," bailey greeted the boy, ruffling up his hair. bailey took a seat next to alyssa chatting about something.
once benj snapped out of his trance he then notice kenzie standing besides him. "oh hey kenz," he said and went back to eating his breakfast. kenzie noticed the changed of his tone once he greeted her but she chose to ignore it and sad besides him and alyssa trying to catch up to the conversation the girls were having.
"i don't understand why i can't drive to school with you guys," benj interrupted and all three girls turned to look at him. "we have first period free," kenzie explained. "yeah and your whole vibe sucks," alyssa added looking back at her phone again.
"don't listen to her. you and your carpool are gonna have a great time," benj's mom reassured him. "is he gonna bring you home after musical theatre?" she asked.
"i'm not doing that anymore. it's lame," benj stated. hearing that, both his mom's and kenzie's heads turned towards him in shock. "what? but you're so good at it!" kenzie said as she looked questionably at him. she knew for a fact that he quit just because he was starting high school and to impress baile of course. why wouldn't he.
"what lame? what? no! you're so talented you can't give that up!" his mom said, taken back by the whole topic of conversation. "remember when you dressed up as Stevie Wonder and he'd sing for us?" mrs nielsen said nostalgically looking at her kids and their friends.
"i was ten, that was a million years ago," benj said, looking down at his now empty plate embarrassed. "aw i remember he was so good!" bailey said as memories came by. "yeah he was cute," kenzie added.
"wait who's your carpool?" bailey asked the boy. "some senior the school assigned to me. adam rubens or something?" when that name left benj's mouth, all three girls turned to look at each other with shocked faces and the laughing erupted.
benji looked at them weirdly, wondering why they were laughing. "what is he really cool?" he said with a smirk. "uh no, the opposite of cool. he's just a lame loser and the worst person in the entire school," kenzie informed the boy besides her with a laugh.
benj's eyes widened when he heard that, not believing his luck. "seriously?"
"yeah that kid's terrible," bailey added. "okay. well you know what that sounds like to me? sounds like you could both use a friend. how serendipitous!" mrs nielsen exclaimed tried to clam down her son.
"come on girls we gotts go," alyssa said as she and her friends grabbed their backpacks and headed towards the door. "have a great day i love you!" mrs nielsen said as her daughter and bailey left. "see ya at school," kenzie said with a smile and went to join her friends.
