𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 5𝐭𝐡 2024Imani's alarm buzzed, and she groaned, slapping her phone to shut it off. First day of junior year. Another year of the same nonsense. She sat up, her phone lighting up with notifications from her group chat with Jade and Lena.
Lenaa 💕: "grand rising chat 😆!"Jadee 😘: "Don't start the year on some lazy shit Imani we outsideee 😛😛 !"
Imanii 🤍: "Y'all stay doing the most 😒 im getting ready tho"
Imani rolled her eyes, smirking at the messages. She wasn't about to match their energy, but she knew they meant well. Jade was always on some motivational hype, and Lena...well, Lena just said whatever popped into her head.Dragging herself out of bed, she shuffled to the bathroom, showered, once she got out she started tying her hair up before brushing her teeth and doing her skincare. She glanced at herself in the mirror—skin glowing, lashes full, braids neatly done. A quick swipe of lip gloss and she was good to go.
Outfit-wise, she wasn't doing too much. High-waisted jeans, light blue dunks, and a white long sleeve cropped tee. Something slight. She grabbed her backpack and phone and left the house.

Imani walked to school, the streets of Harlem buzzing with the usual morning chaos. She bumped into a few friends along the way, exchanging quick hellos and casual banter. The familiar hum of the city filled the air, adding a certain vibrancy to the start of the school year.As she made her way down the crowded hallway on her phone, she rounded a corner and collided with a solid figure. Books and papers flew everywhere. Looking up, she saw David Reyes—Ddosama himself—staring at her with a mix of annoyance and surprise.
"Damn, watch where you going!" Imani snapped, clearly annoyed.
Dd shot her a sharp look, his smirk barely visible. "Maybe if you weren't so busy with yo phone, you'd see where you're walking."
Imani rolled her eyes, not in the mood for a fight.
As she walked into her first period class, she noticed two boys at the back—one with light skin and twists, and the other with brown skin and curly hair in a low ponytail—joking around and chatting loudly. The light-skinned boy was laughing at something the brown-skinned one said, and the two seemed to be having a great time. She took a seat nearby, and as the class began, the two boys introduced themselves. The light-skinned one was Darrien Jimenez—SugarHill Ddot—and the brown-skinned one was Ethan Reyes—Notti Osama. They were quick to include Imani in their conversations, and by the end of the period, the three had bonded over shared jokes and mutual interests.
At lunch, Imani met up with Lena and Jade, who were already at their usual table. They chatted about their morning classes and the teachers they have. As they were talking, Notti and Ddot walked over with a few of their friends, heading straight to their table.
"Yo can we sit here? Tha other tables are packed." Notti asked. Ddot added with a grin "we can't find anymore seats so this tables lookin like tha move." Lena and Jade exchanged glances Lena shrugged, and Jade nodded. "Yea pull up." Jade saidDd followed behind them and took a seat next to Notti. Imani's eyes widened slightly as she recognized him from the hallway.
"Wait, that's the guy I bumped into this morning," she said to Lena and Jade.
Jade noticed Imani's reaction and nudged her. "You good? What's up?"
Imani shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, just ian expect to see him here."
Dd joined the conversation with Notti and Ddot, and the vibe around the table shifted. Imani couldn't help but feel a bit of tension as Dd's presence added an unexpected twist to her day. The rest of lunch was filled with casual conversation and laughter, but Imani's mind kept drifting back to their earlier encounter.
As the final bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, Imani packed up her things, a mix of curiosity and annoyance swirling in her mind. The day had its ups and downs, and she was left wondering how her encounters with Dd and her new friends would play out.
Walking out of the cafeteria, Imani glanced around, ready for whatever the rest of the year had in store. Harlem's streets were buzzing with life, and she was about to dive headfirst into the drama, excitement, and unexpected twists that awaited her.
