𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟔𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒Imani tossed her backpack onto the floor, throwing herself onto her bed with a sigh. Her day had been a lot. Between dealing with classes and Dd popping up everywhere, she was more than ready to be home. She grabbed her phone, ready to zone out with TikTok when a notification popped up.
Maybe: David Reyes: yoShe stared at the screen for a moment, not expecting a text from him. Why was he even texting her? Her thumb hovered over the screen before she reluctantly tapped on the message.
Imani 😾: what u want ?
She watched the dots appear and disappear, a smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth despite herself. He always seemed so confident at school, but here he was hesitating to type back.
David: chilllll. u do the homework yet ?
Imani 😾: why u care ? not like u need it .
She rolled her eyes, but the way her heart skipped a beat annoyed her. Dd was annoying, cocky, and full of himself—but she couldn't lie, something about their back-and-forth had her curious.
David: maybe . or maybe I js wanted to check up on u
Imani 😾: 🙄 right .
She dropped her phone on the bed, trying to ignore how her stomach flipped. A few seconds passed, and then it buzzed again. This time, it was a FaceTime request. Her heart jumped in her chest. She stared at it, her fingers frozen for a second before she quickly swiped to answer. The screen opened to dd, leaning back on his couch, his hoodie on, looking just as smug as ever. "you couldn't just text?"
Imani adjusted her hair, trying not to look too flustered. "You just got my number, and now you blowing up my phone?" Imani said tauntingly
David raised an eyebrow, his grin widening. "Nah, you jus been on my mind."
Imani paused for a second, the air between them thickening through the screen. She laughed, shaking her head. "You wild."
David leaned closer to the camera, his voice dropping just a little. "Am I? Or you jus not used to a nigga who actually say what he mean?"
She felt her breath hitch but quickly covered it with a scoff. "Please, save that shit for somebody else."
David chuckled, his eyes locking on hers through the screen. "Aight. Keep actin like you ain't feelin this."
Imani rolled her eyes again, though this time, it felt weaker. Her fingers twitched by her side as she tried to keep her cool. "What makes you think I'm feelin anything?"
David leaned back, smirking. "You answered my FaceTime, didn't you?"
She stared at him, words failing her for a moment. Before she could come up with a comeback, Dd's phone buzzed, and he glanced at it. "I gotta go, but save my number. We ain't done."
Imani glared at him, but her lips quirked. "Yeah, whatever. Bye, David."
He flashed her one last grin before the call ended, leaving her staring at her reflection on the black screen. Her pulse raced as she dropped her phone on the bed.
"What the hell just happened?"
