After a few moments of silence, the king is the first to speak.
"All right. Who wants to go first?"

"I guess I'll go first," my mother says after a few moments of nobody speaking. "We were hoping that when you didn't find your mate at sixteen you would take over as high priestess one day. As our only child, the title would go to you. Also, I- I'm...." my mother suddenly goes quiet, as her face pales.

"Your mother is sick Isabella," my dad finishes for her.

I gasp and put my hand over my mouth.

"What? What do you mean?" I ask. "Dad, Can't you heal her?"

"It's cancer, sweetie. It's terminal. No magic in the world could ever heal her."

A sob escapes my mouth as I run over to my parents and pull them into a hug.

We sit there crying for several minutes before I finally manage to calm down enough to speak again.

"When did you find out?" I ask, my voice cracking as I speak.

The king and my mate remain silent.

"Last week," admits my dad.

"Why are you just telling me now?"

"We wanted you to enjoy your birthday and the ball," says my mother.

I nod and ask, "How much time do you have left?"

"The doctor said six months if we refuse treatment but with treatment, she could live longer," says my dad.

"I'm not going to take the treatment. It would make me incredibly sick and I want my last days to be filled with happiness, not stuck in a hospital."

I whimper and pull my parents into another hug.

After a few moments, I speak again, "I promise to train my hardest and become a great high priestess. I won't let you down this time," I tell them, the insinuation obvious to them.

I know that my parents have long since forgiven me for what happened to Jax but I haven't forgiven myself.

"We should discuss how this affects us and your role as my Luna," my mate speaks up. "My pack is in Louisiana. We have over two thousand pack members. It's not feasible to move such a large pack out here."

I stand up, wipe away my tears, and then go sit next to my mate on the couch. I take my mate's hand and say, "I wasn't expecting to meet you after waiting for two years and I wasn't expecting to complete the mating bond so soon after meeting you. I was so excited that I finally found you that I couldn't help myself. I want to be your Luna but my coven needs me. My mom being sick changes things too. I can't just abandon them. "

"I understand. I wasn't expecting to meet you either and I waited for over eight years. I want you to be happy. Is there anything we can do to compromise? What if your coven joined us in Louisiana? I know that most witches and werewolves don't get along but maybe it could work."

"I don't think that's a good idea," says the king. "That would cause a lot of problems."

"What should I do?" I ask my parents.

"It's your choice, Isabella," answers my mother.

"Yes, your choice," confirms my mate.

Oh my god. What do I do?

"Well, I haven't started my training yet. Can't we appoint someone else as high priestess? Someone we trust?" I ask. "I also don't want to leave knowing that you are sick, mom."

"I know sweetie, but it'll be okay. We would have had to find a successor anyway if you had found your mate at sixteen like most of us do. Plus you can travel anytime you want to visit us," my mom tells me.

"You know I'll take care of your mom Isabella," my dad reassures me.

"I know, I'd just miss you guys like crazy and I'd worry about you all the time."

My parents nod in understanding.

My mate or my coven.

What should I choose?

What would you choose if you were in my situation?

"So," says the king, "Have you made your decision?"

Here we go.

"Yes, I have. I want to ..............."
