Once I am close enough I see that it's a small wolf. It has golden fur. If never seen a wolf with gold fur before. It's sniffing some flowers and I noticed that they're the same kind as the flower I saw the day Jax died. I fly even closer but when I land the branch creeks and the wolf's golden eyes look in my direction.
Our eyes connect and we are instantly bonded. It's my familiar! I fly down to the wolf and shift back to my human form. The wolf sniffs my outstretched hand and then licks it. "I accept you as my master and I will protect you for as long as you live," she says through our mind link. I pet her as I ask her" Do you have a name?" "Arinna" she replies. "What a beautiful name!" I exclaim, "I accept you as my familiar".
We walk back to the club and as we get closer I hear my friends calling my name. My scent is still being masked so my friends can't smell where I am.
Once at the edge of the woods I see my friends and run over to them. Arinna stops still out of view of them, unsure if it's safe to proceed.
"Izzy!" Maya yells as she points in my direction.
Everyone runs over to me. Sarah crushes me into a hug and asks, "Are you okay?". Maya and Cara inspect me for any injuries.
"Yes, but you're squishing me," I say.
Sarah pulls away while saying, "Sorry love. I forget my strength sometimes."
"Where'd you go?" Cara demands with her hands on her hips.
"Yeah, where DID you go?! I can't smell you" Maya says angrily.
"There was some creepy guy at the bar watching me," I said. "Then he disappeared and I thought maybe he left but then I got this feeling he was right behind me. I turned around and there he was. He was just standing there with a creepy smile on his face and Freya was freaking out. So I hightailed it out of there. I masked my scent once I was outside so he couldn't follow me and then I ran till I was in the woods. I shifted into an owl and hid in a tree hoping he wouldn't go looking for me in the woods."
"Is he still around or did he leave?" Sarah asked while scanning the area.
"He left" I responded.
"Are you sure? I can shift and search the parameter real quick," Maya offered.
"No, it's okay. We're safe now," I told them.
Snap!
Everyone looked in the direction that the sound came from. "What was that?" Cara asked, her eyes turning purple.
Maya sniffs the air, "smells like a wolf" she says, her eyes turning gold.
Sarah's eyes turned red meaning she was on alert too.
I quickly stop them saying, "Wait!"
They turned to look at me and I explained that she was my familiar.
"She's a wolf named Arinna," I tell them.
Their eyes return to normal and they turn back around in the direction of Arinna excited to meet her.
"It's safe to come out now Arinna." I beckon through our mind link.
A few seconds later she pokes her head out of the tree line and my friends gasp.
"She's gorgeous, Iz!" Maya gushes.
Arianna, knowing it is safe to come out now, trots over to greet my friends.
"I've never seen a more beautiful familiar, Izzy," Cara tells me.
"Yes, she's stunning," Sarah agrees.
"I know, right!" I squeal. "There's one more thing though," I tell the girls as they pet Arinna.
"What more could there be Izzy" Maya says as she stops petting Arianna and turns to me.
"I think I bumped into my mate on my way out of the club," I confess.
They all gasp and immediately pull me into a group hug.
"Way to leave the best news for last!" Cara laughs.
"Yeah!" agrees Sarah.
"Who is it?" Maya inquires.
"I don't know. In my panic, I didn't even register that it was my mate until I was safe in the woods," I explain.
"Well let's get out of here," Sarah suggests. "It'll be safer at the hotel."
We all nod in agreement and start to look for Sarah's car in the parking lot. Arinna disappears and reappears as a beautiful moon tattoo on my arm.

We finally find where we parked and the girls hop in. I'm about to hop in the car too when I feel eyes watching me. Except I'm not scared this time. 'Mate," Freya whispers in my mind. I turn to look around, trying to spot them. "Are you okay, Iz?" Maya asks. My attention snaps to her and I say, "I thought I sensed my mate again."
I look once more but I don't see him so I shake my head and hop in the car.
It was quiet in the car on the way back. I think we're all tired.
Maybe my mate will be at the ball on Saturday. . . . Once we got back to the hotel room, we all got ready to sleep. I'm glad I remembered to pack pajamas.
All ready for bed, I climb in and snuggle into the blankets.
Maya is the last one to get into bed and once she's settled I use my magic to turn out the lights. "Goodnight guys," I say. "Goodnight," they all responded.
As I drift off into dreamland I think about how crazy the day has been and who my mate is. Hopefully they're a good person.
