I've kind of gotten tired of writing to my diary directly. It's a little childish, I think. I also saw this book in Mr. Stein's English class called "The Diary of Anne Frank", and it was written by a girl a couple years older than me who lived through World War II who hid from Germany in an attic. She called her diary "Kitty." I don't think this is childish, but I also don't feel good doing the same when I'm just a girl, not living through a war.

Mom told me that I'm getting transferred out of Mrs. Andrews' class, and I am so happy. She is just so mean! I don't know why they still let her teach, or why she hasn't had any more of us complain about her. Mom also said that Mrs. Andrews sent her a really rude email about her parenting style and that that made her about have it with Mrs. Andrews, but Mom wouldn't let me read the email. She said it would upset me. I can take it. But I don't want to upset Mom, so I agreed with her.

Maggie says that she understands why I don't like Mrs. Andrews, and says I shouldn't get preoccupied with it. Maggie always likes to use the smarter-sounding words, and I think she thinks it makes her smarter. She has to be if she's going to be an astronaut, she says. I don't know if I believe it. It sounds like something Mrs. Knight says in our English class, that speaking bigger words makes you better at writing and thinking. She also yelled at me for using the word hate to refer to something I "merely dislike". She was also saying that hate is a word that should be used to refer to actual times where people are treated badly in the country, like those people the governor is talking about sending back to Mexico. Mom says that she agrees that people shouldn't break the law to come here, but thinks that these people shouldn't be treated like criminals who all want to break the law. People don't get to choose how they're born, Mom says. She also reminds me that, without the Schwartzes' gift to Flynn, we'd be out on the street, because Mom didn't have a lot of options when Dad died. Oh, yeah, the Schwartzes gave Flynn money for college back when he turned eighteen, but he gave a lot of it to Mom, to take care of us. Mom didn't want to send me to a private school, though, because she felt this school system was fine, and it was in a "good area" of town.
