Dewkit jumped around happily. Snowkit, Pinekit, Dragonkit, Flowerkit and him are finally being apprentices. He looked around for his foster sister but she was nowhere to be found. Where could she be? Dewkit wondered.
He saw Pinekit near the apprentice den which was empty since Sootpaw, Goldenpaw, Skypaw and Dawnpaw became Sootclaw, Goldenstorm, Skywhisker and Dawnheart. He went over and asked, "Have you seen Flowerkit?" Pinekit nodded and answered, "I saw her in the clearing just now but she looked really troubled. I tried to ask her why but she snapped at me and told me to leave her alone."
Dewkit nodded unconsciously and thanked Pinekit. Then he went and found Flowerkit near the freshkill pile. "Flowerkit! Are you feeling okay? Pinekit just said you snapped at him, and you don't usually do that."
Flowerkit looked at Dewkit and sighed, "It's nothing really. It's our apprentice ceremony today. You shouldn't worry about me."
"Come on! You know you can tell me everything, right?" Dewkit exclaimed.
"Fine! I'll tell you." Flowerkit mewed and told him how she was visited by a Starclan cat who told her the prophecy. After hearing what Flowerkit said, Dewkit was shocked.
"You got a message from Starclan! You should be a medicine cat." he said. Flowerkit looked at him, horrified, "No! I'm destined to be a warrior. I don't want to be a medicine cat. I mean, I know they are important to the clan, but no offence, I don't want to be stuck in the medicine den all the time."
"Ok. Calm down. It was just a suggestion." Dewkit tried to comfort his sister and thought. Flowerkit is really special but she doesn't know it.
Before he could say another word, Heatherstar stood on the Great Stone and mewed, "Let all those cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Great Stone for a clan meeting."
"It's our apprentice ceremony. Let's go." Flowerkit mewed.
When the whole clan had gathered beneath the Great Stone, Heatherstar began, "Snowkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Snowpaw. Your mentor will be Owlheart. I hope she will pass down all she knows onto you." Heatherstar then turned to Owlheart, "Owlheart, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from Featherfall, and you have shown yourself to be brave and loyal. You will be the mentor of Snowpaw, and I expect you to pass down all you know onto her." Snowpaw bounced over and touched noses with Owlheart.
Pinepaw was mentored by Nighthawk while Dragonpaw was mentored by Heatherstar which was a huge honour.
Soon it was Dewkit and Flowerkit's turn. "Dewkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Dewpaw. Your mentor will be Morningsky." Heatherstar mewed. Dewpaw froze. Morningsky? She's the strictest warrior ever. Heatherstar continued, "Morningsky, you are ready to take on another apprentice. You have trained Goldenstorm well, and you have shown yourself to be brave, loyal and smart. You will be the mentor of Dewpaw, and I expect you to pass down all you know onto him." Dewpaw trembled when he touched noses with her. "I'll try my best." he murmured. "I'm sure you will." whispered Morningsky.
Then Flowerkit was named Flowerpaw and her mentor was Stemclaw, the clan deputy. The whole clan cried out, "Snowpaw! Pinepaw! Dragonpaw! Dewpaw! Flowerpaw!"
"We're so proud of you two!" mewed Ivywing and Rainwhisker.
"Thanks! Being an apprentice is great!" exclaimed Dewkit. He looked at Flowerkit and found his own excitement on her face.
"Dewpaw! We're going on border patrol!" mewed Morningsky.
"Is Flowerpaw coming with us?" he asked, secretly hoping that she was.
"No. We're going to the Earthclan border while the other patrol is going to the Sunclan border. Snowpaw and Owlheart are coming with us." Morningsky replied.
During the border patrol, Dewpaw learnt a lot about Mistclan territory. Morningsky told him some of the best places to hunt. When they got to the border, she taught him how to mark it. Maybe Morningsky isn't such a bad mentor after all. He wondered.

When he got back from patrol, he was told to clean the elders' den with Snowpaw, Pinepaw and Flowerpaw.
"This is the worst job ever!" Snowpaw complained. "Why doesn't Dragonpaw need to help?"
'It's not so bad. And besides, Dragonpaw is probably training with Heatherstar.' Pinepaw tried to calm his fuming littermate down.
"That's the point! Why does he get to train while we clean the elder's den just because he's Heatherstar's apprentice." Flowerpaw growled.
"Let's just get on with it," Dewpaw muttered, "Maybe our mentors will teach us something after this."
-------------
The apprentices got to hunt with their mentors after cleaning the elders' den. When Dewpaw got back, he saw Flowerpaw, Snowpaw and Pinepaw eating together. He took the mouse he caught and went over to them.
"I caught a mouse. With the help of Morningsky, of course." he mewed proudly.
"That's great! Pinepaw and I caught a bird together. Snowpaw caught a mouse. Want to share?" Flowerpaw asked.
Dewpaw nodded, "Sure! Let's share together! By the way, is Dragonpaw back yet?"
"He's sleeping in the apprentice den." Pinepaw answered.
They finished eating their freshkills and began walking towards the apprentice den to get some sleep.
Flowerpaw yawned, "Being an apprentice is great. But I'm exhausted." The apprentices nodded in agreement.
"I wonder what our mentors will need us to do tomorrow." mewed Pinepaw.
"We'll find out tomorrow." Snowpaw replied.
They got into the den and Dewpaw settled down in his nest.
"Goodnight!" Flowerpaw whispered in his ear.
"Goodnight!" Dewpaw echoed and drifted into sleep.
