It was a few days before Jisung's birthday, and Minho was already pacing back and forth in his apartment, his mind racing with thoughts of what to get for his friend.
He had known Jisung for a while now, and they had become close.
But despite all the time they spent together, Minho found himself absolutely clueless about what to get him as a birthday gift.
Frustrated, Minho grabbed his phone and called the one person he thought might help: Hyunjin.
"Hey, can you come over? I need to talk to you about something." Minho said in a hurried tone.
Hyunjin sounded amused on the other end. "Is this about work? Or something else?"
"Just get your ass here. It's important." Minho replied, completely evading the question.
Within half an hour, Hyunjin showed up at Minho's place, looking relaxed as ever.
He had his hands stuffed in his pockets, raising an eyebrow at the obvious tension in the room.
That was when when he saw Minho sitting on the couch with a furrowed brow.
"Okay, what's so important that I have to travel all the way here?" Hyunjin asked, sitting down across from Minho with a knowing grin.
But unfortunately, Minho was either too busy panicking or choosing not to question the look from the other.
Minho sighed dramatically, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's just that..." He began, words seemed to be caught up in his throat as he let out an awkward cough. "Jisung's birthday is coming up, and I have no idea what to get him."
The reaction he got was immediate. Hyunjin burst out laughing, shaking his head in disbelief. While Minho only stared at him as if he had grown another head.
"You called me over for that? What the actual fuck?" Hyunjin managed to wheeze out, ignoring how Minho started giving him death glares.
"You two hang out all the time, and you're telling me you don't know what he likes?" Hyunjin leaned against the chair as he played with his own hair.
Minho's glare did not die down. "That's the problem. I spend so much time with him that it's even harder to pick something."
Seeing how Hyunjin's smirk became more evident, the boy grabbed the nearest pillow he could find and hugged it tightly, cheeks slightly flushed.
"I just don't want it to be something lame." He muttered, lips slowly forming into a pout unknowingly.
Safe to say, Hyunjin was dumbfounded as much as he was astonished, to see how Minho's usual confident and chill demeanor switched into a rather shy, mindful boy.
"Jisung's really changed you, huh?" Hyunjin's teasing died down a little as his gaze softened.
Just by saying Jisung's name, the latter could see a smile forming onto Minho's face.
"He really did." Minho lifted his head up, looking back at Hyunjin with a much sincere look than before.
The taller boy observed how Minho's face lightened up at the mention of Jisung, the rare sight of vulnerability catching him off guard.
It wasn't every day that Minho let his walls down like this, but when it came to Jisung, something about him just shifted.
"You know..." Hyunjin began, leaning forward with a more gentle tone. "I get it. I went through the same thing with Felix."
He watched as Minho shifted his position to face him, a serious expression that screamed 'tell me something that's helpful enough'.
Hyunjin bit in a laugh before continuing. "It's funny how someone can just come into your life and make you want to be better, be more thoughtful without even trying."
