A Mother's Love Protects You

The demon’s head fell to the grass in one smooth motion after the hit. Yet he could not celebrate because a head was already pushing up from the stump between the shoulders. Tanjiro threw himself back to avoid any attack from the demon woman whose head popped back out like nothing had happened at all.

‘Dammit. That didn’t take long at all! None of the demons at the Final Selection were that fast in regeneration!’ Tanjiro thought, observing how the demon woman was quick to ready her stance as soon as her eyes were on him again.

“He will be so happy to have your head as a trophy. Maybe he’ll use it as a mount and have your horrified face displayed for every demon to laugh at!” Susamaru said with a sadistic grin stretched across her face

Tanjiro gritted his teeth right before he released the tightness in his jaw when he noticed two shadows above him. He looked up to see his mother cradling Nezuko as they hit the ground. His mother’s fingers were tipped with claws dripping in blood while Nezuko was holding her head.

“Nezuko? Mom?!” Tanjiro called out.

His mother grumbled in response before sending a growl directly to the tree that jumped up to. He could hear the leaves rustling above him in the tree along with a very faint voice complaint about dirt on his face.

“Good, you can die together with your little family.” Susamaru’s words forced him to focus back on her. She launched a temari at his mother who was shielding Nezuko.

Tanjiro dived towards them and made them move out of the way right on time for the temari to miss them. The ball went sailing through the open room so loudly he could only hope that his siblings stayed quiet.

The less Muzan knew about them, the better.

“Are you two alright?” Tanjiro asked. Both his mother and sister nodded with small chuffs behind their muzzle, his mother was humming to him more in response. “Okay. That strategy didn’t work. Maybe—"

“Hey, idiot slayer!” Yushiro called out to him with a clear annoyed tone.

Tanjiro glanced to see the green haired demon glaring at him while huddled close to Miss Tamayo as he slowly guided her along the walls of the open room. “We’ll deal with the temari girl. You just need to get the arrow demon out of the way!”

“That’s a great idea, Yushiro.” Miss Tamayo replied, which made the demon boy blush at her praise. “Leave it to us, Tanjiro!”

“Okay,” Tanjiro agreed. The temari woman clearly needed to have more opponents given the number of arms and balls she had. He looked at two members of his demon family. He smiled at them reassuringly. “Don’t push yourselves too hard. I’ll be back as soon as I get rid of him.”

His mother was quick to ruffle his long, wavy hair while Nezuko grunted. His sister’s attention turned towards Yushiro and Tamayo who stepped out into the moonlight. He watched as both of their eyes turned to slits as they hurried to stand next to the other two demons so they could take on Susamaru in a group.

Tanjiro turned his attention on the arrow demon with their eyes closed standing by the trunk of the tree now with a disgruntled expression. He narrowed his eyes at the demon and rushed to him with his sword.
