When Happiness Is Eliminated

Chapter 6- That was close!

*Ava POV*

I get a call from my mom again, this time it's the number that I have saved, the American number, at least now I'm prepared to answer the call. "Hi sweetie!" She says, really loud, causing me to move the phone away from my ear a bit. "Hi mom" I reply. She's still being nice? I don't understand. I thought maybe something happened the first time she called, turns out that wasn't really the case, it seems like she really means it! Have all my dreams and wishes come true? I always wanted parents like the other girls, especially Chloe's parents, and I think it's happening. Let's just wait and see until they come home, I'm quite suspicious about this.

I've been in the mall for just-over an hour, I think. Yes, I know, Cathy totally persuaded me into doing this. I have plenty of time to get home, easy, I just need a cab to drive me home. How else was I gonna go home originally, even if my parents were still in Geneva?

"We just landed and we're in the airport. We'll be home soon darling!" She continues to shout. I think it's because of all the background noise, I've never been to an airport this noisy, believe it or not, I've never actually been to an airport. We'd either stay in California, or if we're really lucky and my parents are actually in a good mood and decide that we can have a break and go on vacation, we just drive to a different state. That's the furthest it goes. Never been on an airplane, and I really wanna someday.

"Ok great. I'll be waiting! Can't wait to see you guys!" I say, in a good mood. I just wanna bring the good vibe and spirit to my parents, just for them to be sure that I'm ok. I'm glad this mall isn't noisy, otherwise, I would've been caught while they were in Geneva! I don't know what'd happen to me then... 

"Us too! Anyways, I have to go get my luggage honey. I'll call you back when we're on our way. Just wanna make sure you're doing alright." She says. This time, not as loud as she was before, but loud enough for the girls to hear her, even when she's not on speaker.

"Ok, don't worry about us. Like I said, Alex is asleep, and I'm just here waiting." I say, while everything's going well. Just as she's about to say bye, a mother decides to scream "Mikey! Get back here immediately! I can't keep waiting for you!". Loud enough for my mom to hear through the phone. I try to cover the mic, as quick as possible on the phone but I'm too late, she's already heard enough. I'm hoping she didn't actually hear it, or she wasn't concentrating because I have no clue how I can explain this to her!

"Sweetie? Is everything alright? What was that? Where are you?" She says. Oh no, she heard it. Damn it! Did everything really have to mess up NOW? I wish I just went home and didn't listen to Cathy. "What was what? I'm at home, Alex is asleep. What are you talking about?" I quickly respond, trying to be oblivious of the incident. 

"I heard someone shouting. Ava, where are you?" She says, really concerned this time. "Mom, I'm at home. Maybe those were the neighbors, or maybe it came from you, at the airport. There seems to be a lot of noise going on behind you, you were probably mistaken with what you're hearing through the phone and what you're hearing at the airport. I didn't hear anything though." I reply. I'm quite good at improvising. Some people would call it lying but I'd just say it's improvising.

"I'm quite sure it was coming from your side, but maybe you're right, it might've been from behind me. I'm not really concentrating at the moment, I need to go get my luggage." She says, really confused. Whew, that was close! "Sure ok. Don't worry about a thing mom." I say, trying to relieve her, she still doesn't seem very convinced, but I've gotta hang up before anybody else in the mall decides to break the silence right now. 

"Ok sweetie. I'll call you back!" She says, sounding a bit more convinced this time. "Ok great! Bye!" I quickly say, waiting for her to reply and quickly hang up, hoping nothing interupts again. "Bye honey!" She says, and I immediately hang up!

"Wow, you're good at lying Ava!" Chloe says, with a small giggle. "I wouldn't call it lying, it's more just... improvising!" I tell her, and they all laugh. "Ok guys, as you probably heard, I need to get going!" I tell them, while getting a little panic attack thinking of how much trouble I'd be in if they found out!

"Don't worry about a thing Ava. I've got your back!" Cathy says. I don't really trust her this time. I was almost gonna get caught because of her. Not directly, but I mean, if she didn't persuade me into staying in the mall for a couple of hours, this incident wouldn't have happened, and my mom wouldn't have been as suspicious as she was. "It better be good Cathy" I say, while kinda panting because of my panic attack, leading to like a mini heart attack!

We all just follow Cathy, and there's a door, which she opened. Not the door we entered from, so I'm guessing this is a different entrance/exit place. She opens the door, and all I can see is a billion taxi's outside waiting for customers. "Yes! Thank you so much Cathy!" I say as I run up to hug her. 

She's taller than me, by a lot. I'm the shortest out of them, but I wouldn't say so, because I'm almost Cara's height anyways! Now I'm worried about the money and going on a taxi on my own, this is just all new to me. I don't wanna ask if anyone could come with me, 'cause I'm sure none of them will be able to, they're probably all getting a ride home from the mall, not my house.
