I'm in my office, staring at my screen, responding to emails that seem never-ending. Across the room, Giovanni and Lucas are sprawled out on the sofas, the low hum of background music playing through the speakers. The usual quiet is broken when Lucas suddenly says, "I think I want to get a cat."
I glance up from my laptop, raising an eyebrow. "Where's that come from?"
Lucas shrugs, leaning back with a lazy grin. "I guess I'm just... lonely."
Gio lets out a short laugh from his spot on the couch. "Then get a girlfriend."
"Nah, just like the rest of us, I don't do relationships," Lucas responds with a smirk, eyes glinting mischievously.
Before I can respond, my phone buzzes loudly on the desk. I glance at the screen—it's one of my men. Strange for him to call so early. I pick up.
"Boss, we have a problem at La Notte Nera."
"What kind of problem?" I ask, my tone steady. Both Giovanni and Lucas sit up, eyes on me.
"The dead body kind," he says, and I hear the tension in his voice.
I grit my teeth, already feeling the weight of the situation. "Alright, we'll be there soon." I hang up, standing quickly.
Gio glances at me, his brow furrowed. "What is it?"
I sigh, running a hand through my hair. "A dead body at La Notte Nera."
Both Giovanni and Lucas are on their feet in an instant, the easygoing mood from moments ago gone.
"Let's go," Giovanni says, his voice low and determined.
Without another word, we grab our coats and head for the door. It's going to be one of those days.

As soon as we get out of the cars, Dante, also known as Steel, approaches us. His nickname comes from his reputation for staying calm under pressure and his skill with weapons. He's one of our top men, if not the top man.
"We found him this morning," Dante says as we walk into the room. "Throat dissolved with poison. She's back."
"Who?" Lucas asks, looking puzzled.
I move closer to the body and see the name carved into his chest. "Phantom," I say, frustration evident in my voice.
Fuck my life.
Gio and Lucas crowd around the body, their expressions serious. "Who is this? Did he work for us?" Gio asks, looking at the corpse.
Steel shakes his head. "No he wasn't involved in the mafia. His name is David Levos."
Lucas furrows his brow. "Any idea why she targeted him?"
Steel explains, "He was known for drugging and assaulting young girls in nightclubs."
