CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
❛ the call ❜

LETTING OUT AN uninterested sigh, you twirled your mechanical pencil in-between your finger as Mr. Aizawa give his usual lecture. Your mind was elsewhere, much too focused on the events of last night to care about today's lesson.

How could you do that with Bakugo?!

Your face flushed as you recalled what had taken place; getting plastered, the things you did with Bakugo. You felt your body shiver— you couldn't forget the feeling of his hands roaming your body. You pulled at the scarf that was wrapped around your neck, the love-bites from Bakugo being concealed behind it. If Testutetsu hadn't caught you in his room, who knows what else would've happened. You couldn't help but peek at the ash-blonde from the corner of your eye, watching as he wrote in his notebook.

"(L/n), I asked you a question." You yelped, your attention turning back to Mr. Aizawa. He stared at you through half-lidded eyes, appearing tired, yet irritated. The entire class's atrention was foxed onto you, waiting for you to answer the question.

"... That's a great question..." You responded, avoiding eye contact. It was silent, before you continued. "... that I cannot answer at the moment." Mr. Aizawa scoffed, shaking his head in disappointed. A singular giggled rippled through the classroom, breaking the silence.

"I wouldn't be laughing with your test scores, Kaminari." The ginger-haired boy gulped, shutting his mouth as he sunk back into his chair. Shoto then raised a hand, earning Mr. Aizawa's attention.

"The hero must simultaneously protect the civilian while defending them from the villain. It's never an option to lose sight of the civilian." Mr. Aizawa nodded his head, before turning back toward the board and writing with chalk. You furrowed your brows in annoyance as you leaned back against your chair. You knew that ...

"(Y/n), over here!!" Mina waved to you, gesturing to the cafeteria table she sat at. Alongside her sat Uraraka and Asui, who were eating their lunch. You offered a smile, approaching the three girls with your own tray of lunch. Placing your tray down, you took a seat.

"You okay, (L/n)?" Uraraka asked, concerned. "You've been out of it all morning." You awkwardly chuckling, nodding at her question.

"I'm fine ..." You responded, but not a single person was convinced— not even yourself. You unconsciously clutched your scarf, scared to show what was hidden underneath.

"Oh, really .." Mina muttered, before pulling at your scarf, making you yelp. "Nothing happened— not even last night?!" You scooted away, preventing her from peeking underneath.

"Had a good time with your boyfriend??" Uraraka teased, referring to Bakugo. Nothing had been made official, but with the rumors that YOU started going around, he might as well be your boyfriend. "When I showed up to the party, I saw the two of you sneaking off to... somewhere secretive." The girls began giggling, and you felt your cheeks blush in embarrassment. Looking away, you accidentally made eye contact with the hot-head, who happened to been staring at you already. His eyes widened slightly, not expecting you to catch him staring. You quickly turned your gaze and buried your face into your hands.

You couldn't help but wonder, what was he thinking about in this moment?! Was his stomach in knots just as yours was?! Are you just friends who happened to be fake dating, or were you slowly becoming something more without even realizing?! What if you stopped talking due to how awkward it was right now?! The last thing you'd want to do is to lose Bakugo's friendship.

"I'm gonna head to the bathroom." You said suddenly, rising from your seat with your tray in hand. "See ya'." Without waiting for a response, you left quickly, leaving the girls to wonder what had just happened.

"Did we upset her?" Asui questioned, scratching her neck. "They are dating, right? Why would she be upset?" Uraraka shrugged, not sure if she had hit a nerve. Mina couldn't help but grin— she couldn't wait until her plan fell into place.

Throwing your half-eaten food into the trash, you placed the tray on top, before making your way out the cafeteria doors. Maybe you'd sit in the library and study before class began? Little did you know, Bakugo was already out of his seat and headed toward you. He reached out, grasping your wrist.

"(Y/n)—" As you spun around to face the blonde, your phone began to ring. You and Bakugo locked eyes for a second, before you took out the device, staring at the screen. Your screen lit up, displaying the name 'Mom'. You let out a sigh, a bit annoyed. You already went over this with her— she knew your school hours, why would she call you during the middle of the school day?! Picking up the phone, you held it to your ear.

"(Y/n), oh my god!!" Your mother wailed over the phone, sending a chill down your spine.

"Your father— he's missing!!"
