ANDREA

I take a look around the table, at Elena's shock and his parents nervous glances at each other. I'm shocked by their genuine surprise at my words, but when I look at Miles, I know. The way he spoke to me about how much he talked about me to them, I thought that they knew about our status. But it seemed that he didn't tell them that fine detail.

Miles is red-faced as he sits beside me, head ducked as a flush creeps up his neck. His head is balanced on his hand that he uses to try and cover himself up. I've never seen him this shy before, and wow, it was something to see. The boy who talked up a big game to me was suddenly a guy who blushed! Blushed hard enough for his neck and face to be covered in splotches of color.

His mom clears her throat, picking up the fork as she looks at her son. "So, um, how did this happen?"

By this, she means my pregnancy. I have a joke I can use to relieve the tension in the room, but judging by how much Miles kept from me and how hard he was blushing, I'll let him explain. When I don't speak, he turns his head to me. Even though his hair falls at his eyes, I can see the reaction in them. He glares at me, but I only relax my shoulder and shrug. Giving me an unimpressed look, he sighs as he looks at his parents.

"It was a one-night stand," Miles says, voice clear and coming off louder than he intended. He glances at me panicked and then glances at his parents, who were once again sharing a look with each other. Elena lets out a booming laugh that makes me jump as she says, "I knew it. I mean, duh, how else could it have happened?"

Miles' dad glances at his daughter before he looks back at Miles. "So, um, you didn't know, Andrea?"

"No," Miles says, and that causes more looks, so he puts a hand up. "I did know her," he says quickly. "Andrea used to work at the journal. She used to write about hockey and be around for the games."

"So you were friends with her?" his mom asks, nodding as she is eager for that to be the answer.

Miles scratches his head and then says, "Well...no."

Elena snorts at that as well before she looks to her mom. "I'm not sure why you guys are shocked. You know how college frat boys are."

Miles was in a frat house? I hadn't known that little bit of information.

"We didn't know that," his mom says to her daughter before she looks back at Miles. "Okay, we get it," she says with a nod. "So why don't you tell us how you met?"

"I noticed her after my game," Miles says quickly. "Later, she was at the club that—"

"Mom, I'm twenty-one." Miles interrupts his own story when his mom looks at him pointly. "So I can drink."

Elena coughs into her fist, glancing up. "And he has been for a little while now."

"Okay," Miles draws out the word, throwing a glance at his older sister who wasn't helping matters. I only bite my lip to keep from smiling at his dismay. "Anyways, she was at the party I was at as well," Miles continues quickly. "And I noticed her again. She wasn't talking to anyone—well, I guess she was going to get up and go interview someone for her entry that week, but I got to her before she left. I introduced myself and... and well."

His mom nods while his dad just runs a hand down his face. "You guys just slept together, just like that?"

"It's a thing people do, okay?" Elena pipes in. "You're making Andrea uncomfortable."

"Thank you," Miles said, breathing easier but still flushed.

"I wasn't doing it for you," his sister says with a chuckle. "I am rather enjoying watching you squirm."
