ANDREA
"So you are going to be okay with me inviting my friends over today?" I ask Miles in bed the next morning. He had slept over last night, not that it was an option. I watch as he sits up in bed and reaches for Evie in her bassinet. He carries her to her arm and then looks over at me and says, "Of course, sweatheart. I don't mind."
"Just that I would ask," I say with a nod. Miles starts to speak with Evie in the way that he does, entertaining her. I move over closer to his back, a hand sliding against his shoulder. I place my chin on his shoulder, watching him play with Eve with a smile on my face. He was such a good dad, someone who didn't even have to try at it. He just knew he needed to be here for Evie. It's what I love most about him. He is able to step up when I know that this was not the path his life was meant to take.
Miles smiles, looking up at me. "I love you," I say randomly, but I love the way his face breaks into a smile. He gives me a large one as he says, "I love you too." His words feel so warm in my chest, like they're exactly what I need. I look forward to it because knowing he loves me is one thing, but hearing it is so much better. I love him so much that my head spins at the thought of him at times. His eyes keep contact with mine for a long moment, the both of us communicating exactly how much we mean to each other.
Then he looks down at Evie and places his finger at the base of her stomach. He starts to play with the material of her shirt, trying to find a way to make her giggle. "Hi, sweetheart," he says to her, and I can practically hear the amount of love he has for her. It's in his voice, in his eyes, in the way he treats her. "Daddy is happy today," he speaks to her. "Because mommy loves me! You know that! She says she loves me."
I'm chuckling at his shoulder, especially the way he seems so shocked at the words. "Yeah," he says with an over exaggerated nod. "She says she loves me, and last night she showed me how much."
I slapped a hand on his chest, laughter spluttering out of me. Evie's eyes wander off to me now. I give miles a little glare. "Stop telling her about our sex life."
"Ah!" Miles yells softly, his hands going to cover her little ears. "Don't say that in front of her!"
"You're the one who was talking to her about it first," I tell him with a mock defiance. He smirks, "I was just talking about the dinner. I don't know what you were talking about."
"Liar," I say with a laugh. "I saw the way you were smiling at the statement. You were definitely thinking about it."
"No, I wasn't," my boyfriend lies, even though we all know he was bad at it. I roll my eyes as I look down at Evie. "Stop teaching your daughter that lying is okay."
That makes him laugh, and he leans up and kisses me on the lips. When I pull away, Evie is stretching out her arms, and my eyes widen when I see the smile on her lips. "Miles," I whisper, and he grabs my hand. "I see it," he whispers, and the both of us are giddy.
I didn't know what exactly made her smile, but I wanted to see it, again. I lean down and grab Miles face before pressing my lips to his. After the quick peck, I look down to find Evie cooing at the sight, a little smile on her face. "Oh wow," I say, running a hand through my hair, disbelief all around. "She is smiling at us."
"You like Daddy and Mommy kissing?" Miles asks Evie, who only outreaches her arm further. He laughs as he leans up and kisses me again. Once again, Evie is smiling. He sighs, a happy sound before he pecks my lips over and over again. This time Evie smiles, but then there is a reflexive look on her face.
"Oh no," Miles says with a mock frown. "You definitely ruined everything!" he whispers to her with a smile as he gets out of bed. He picks her up before taking her to her changing table. He changes her diaper, a smile on his face. "We were having a nice moment, but you had to go and poop, huh?" Evie is only cooing at the words, which make Miles laugh. He drops her off in bed beside me, leaning down to kiss me. I kiss him back, and he pulls away with a smile. "I'm going to go get dressed for work. Tomorrow is my day off; want to go out?"
