ANDREA
After an exhausting night, I wake up the next morning at Miles down at my feet. I rub at my eyes, my ears hurting from the annoying sound of his alarm system. I look down, reaching down to tap Miles on the shoulder. He doesn't stir, so I sigh before patting him again. "Miles, get your dumb alarm clock out of here."
He stirs awake at my continuous patting, and his eyelashes flutter open. He looks up at me, eyes widening as he says, "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep here."
"I don't care about that," I say and wince as the sound of his alarm blares through the room. "Just shit off the stupid sound," I say with a groan. Miles laughs as he sits up in bed, shoving his hand down his pocket to pull out his phone. Moving off the bed, he says, "You're grumpy."
"Yeah, well, I had to feed for like two hours last night," I say with a frown. "You didn't have to."
"Hey, I've been here with her as well," he says, and I look up at him. "True, but you're so annoying acting cheery."
"It's cute," he comments and then walks out to the door. "I'll see you in a bit." I shove my face back into the pillow and hear the sound of the bathroom before I fall back asleep. I wake up a while later, though it couldn't have been too long, with the sound of Miles voice around me. "So daddy is going to be gone, okay?" I hear him speaking in a soft manner. I already know he is talking to Evie. "And I'll be gone for a long time," he continues. He must be frowning at her because all of a sudden, a loud cry breaks out. Miles chuckles, "Oh no, baby. I'll be back really soon."
Evie only continues to cry loudly at that, and Miles pulls her to his chest. I watch as he sways her gently back and forth, saying, "You're okay, all is well. Daddy's going to be back so soon." Evie only cries louder at that, and I laugh, sitting up in bed. Holding out my arms, I say, "You're getting nowhere with her. Here, hand her to me."
Miles frowns before he reaches down to place Evie in my arms. As soon as she is near me, her hands start to grab the front of my shirt. I'm chuckling when I pull my shirt down and move her head down to my breast. Evie immediately started to cry, instead choosing to drink my milk. Miles sighs, looking down at her head. "You're so mean, baby," he shas with a chuckle. "You'd rather choose mommy's boobs than me?"
"There was a time you'd do it as well," the joke slips out of my mouth before I can stop it. Miles eyes widen as he looks up at me, a beautiful flush rising to his cheeks. I try to act unaffected by the moment between us as I say, "Well, you should get going. You'll be back at 5, you say?"
Miles clears his throat, walking around to the door. "Yeah, and my parents should be here in a little bit," he says. "My mom will help you with housework, and my dad will be able to help as well. Just have them do whatever you want."
"Just use them?" I ask with a grin.
"Yeah, use them," Miles says, which is so awful that I cannot help but laugh out loud at. Miles chuckles because he says, "No, but seriously. They won't be here too long, so take advantage of having them here."
"I'll have to have your mom teach me how to cook then," I say with a little smile, looking down at Evie. She was living life as she drank my milk and had a hand spayed at my chest. She looks almost as if she were smiling.
Miles hums, "Me too." Then he sighs, looking down at Evie one more time. He turns around as if he is about to leave but then turns right back. He makes it back to us within two seconds and leans down to press a kiss to Evie's head. "Daddy loves you," he whispers to her with a smile. Then he leans up and presses a kiss to my cheek, his lips brushing to the apple of my cheek. "I love you as well," he whispers, and I wish I could say them back to him. But I'm still not there. Or maybe I am. But I'm not ready to bask in his love yet, and even though I feel comfort in hearing the three little words, it's not enough.
