Carly's POV

As Charlotte drove, I stared out the window, thinking of all the ways this could end badly. By the time we pulled up to Emily's house, my leg was shaking so much that when Char parked the car, the car started shaking.

"Carly, it's going to be ok," Char said, putting her hand on my leg.

"I don't know if I can do this," I said, feeling tears run down my face.

"Yes, you can, and I don't think you are going to have much of a choice anymore," Char chuckled at the last part.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, Emily is walking to the car as we speak," Char said, pointing out my window.  Before I could look, I heard a knock on my window. I looked over my shoulder, and there stood Emily with the most beautiful smile on her face. I looked back at Char, saying, "Here goes nothing, thank you, Char, I'll see you tomorrow," as I got out of the car. She said ok and drove off.

"Carly, not that I'm complaining, but what are you doing here?" Emily asked.

"I needed to talk to you. Are your parents home?" I asked nervously.

"No, they're at the movies. What's up?" she asked, stepping closer to me and putting her arm around me.

"Let's talk in your room," I said. She leads the way into the house and up the stairs to her room. Emily sat on her bed, and I just stood in the doorway. Apart from I think I should just leave, run away. That it's not worth the risk of losing her, but then I think about Charlotte and Mia, Marjorie and Reece, Autumn and Winter. I want what they have, but that will never happen if I don't take risks.

"Carly?" Emily said, knocking me out of my trance.

"Hm?" I said, finally locking eyes with her.

"You have just been standing there for like 4 minutes. What's going on?" she asked. I started pacing her room, trying to figure out where to start.

"You know how I'm always going after the wrong kind of guy. One that doesn't even know I exist,"

"Yeah, and I'm always telling you you can do better," she said with a small chuckle.

"Yeah, I know, you are right. I have been obsessed with finding my one. Obsessed over having this epic love story like my family at the nursery. I have seen each one of them find someone and fall head over heels in love, and I want that. I want to find that one person who makes the whole world make sure, the one that no matter what goes wrong, they can make it better just by being there, the one who, when my mind goes haywire and everything feels out of control can bring me back down to the solid ground, the one..."

"Carly, calm down, you're rambling. Where are you going with this?" Emily said, standing up and walking over to me, stopping me in my tracks and taking my hands into hers.

"Just like that," I whispered.

"What?" she asked.

"You noticed I was getting anxious and was rambling, so you stopped me, You know, physical touch helps me calm down, and you immediately went to hold my hands. You wanted to know where I was going with this. Well, you are that person. What I'm trying to say is I like you, and I have for a while now, and it's completely ok if you don't feel the same, but I'm hoping you do," I said quickly before I lost my nerve.

"Wow, I wasn't expecting that," she said, looking at the ground. I knew this was overwhelming for her.

"I'm sorry, I know this is a lot. I was so scared to tell you. I didn't want to lose you. If you don't feel the same, that's fine, but please don't leave me," I said, tears welling in my eyes. What if I ruined everything? She looked back at me, her face soft with the most beautiful smile I have ever seen.
