Chapter 1©Catt
I'm lying here in the filed about a mile away from my house. The wild flowers engulfing my body as the sun cast its heated rays upon me. I wish I could close my eyes and stay here forever. The very idea of going back to my house has me almost hyperventilating. I need to stop that train of thought right now or I'll end up passing out. If that happens I'll never make it home before him just the idea of that makes me sick at my stomach.
All I have to do is stay strong until the end of this year and I'll be eighteen. I'll graduate the same week of my birthday then I'm out of here. I'll never lay eyes on him again as long as I live if I can help it. I'll have to make a run for it and I've been plaining all of that out for years. I'll never be able to touch a dime of the money my mom left for me in a trust before she passed away. If I do he'll use it as a way of tacking me down. He will never let me go. He's instilled those very words into my brain day after day for years now.
I could care less about the money I'll gladly give it up if it means never laying eyes on him again. I've managed to hide away enough money over the last few years to help me start over again once I leave. It's not like anyone will ever miss me when I leave he's made sure of that. He's never allowed me to have friends always saying he's the only one I need. Girls have tried to be friends with me throughout the years but give up after a while. I've even had a few guys that have asked me out before but I make sure to nip it in the bud as soon as it happens unsure of what he would do to them if he ever got word about it.
With my eyes closed my mind feels with images of a life far away from here. The thought of having friends and possibly attending some community college makes me smile. I won't have the money to attend the college I've always wanted to but that's fine with me. I'd give up college and live it a cardboard box if it means I'll be away from him.
"Are you alright?"
The sound of a voice has my eyes popping open. At first I thought it was him and he had found my hiding place. As soon as the thought entered my mind it was gone. I didn't recognize this voice. I'm on my feet at once looking to make to make sure my dress is not gathered around my hips. When I see it's touching just above my knees I give a small thanks to god before glancing up for the first time to see the person that spoke to me.
I'm not used to people speaking to me. The people at school gave up on talking to me a long time ago believing I'm a snob. In their minds I don't speak with them because I think myself to good but that couldn't be farther from the truth. I just know if I talk to them it's only going to make things worse for me. He hates the idea of me having friends. According to him he's all I need.
My breath catches at the guy standing in front of me. His short black hair is messy like he runs his fingers through it a lot. He's tall I mean really tall and muscular with wide shoulders. He's sporting a lip ring to go along with the rings he has in each eyebrow. His eyes are a mesmerizing blue and he's dressed in black from head to toe. Combat boots finishes off his bad boy look.
At the moment he is staring down at me like I'm crazy. Which he has every right to believe considering I've been standing here ogling at him for the past couple of minutes.
"Can you talk?"
Oh God he does think I'm crazy and mute. Swallowing I open my mouth to speak and pray that I don't sound as dumb as I look when I do.
"Um...Who are you?" Yea that's real good. If he wasn't watching me I'd hit myself in the head.
"I believe I'm the one that should be asking you that question. You we're laying in my filed like a dead person moments ago after all." He folds his arms across his massive chest as he speaks.
"I'm sorry I had no idea anyone owned the property it's been for sale for the past couple of years. I didn't realize anyone had bought it." I haven't spoken that many words to another person other than him is a long time.
"My family just bought it we moved in a couple of days ago. What's your name?" His arms are still crossed over his and he leans back on his heels. His blue eyes boring into mine with such intensity it's bordering on scary. He is a very intimidating sight to behold.
The way he is looking at me sends chills through my body and I realize I need to get away from him as fast as I can.
"I've been coming here for a while, it's quite and a great place to think. If I knew your family bought the place I wouldn't have though, I'm sorry. I won't come back here again I didn't mean to bother anyone." I'm already turning as the last words leave my mouth. I make it a few feet before a hand takes hold of my shoulder.
I flinch from being touched then jerk out of his reach. I turn around only to see him staring at me with a funny look on his face. I don't say a word because I'm not sure what I supposed say so I keep my mouth shut and wait to hear what he wants.
"You didn't answer me when I asked you your name?" He holds his hands in front of him showing me he is not going to touch me again.
"Oh um yea sorry I forgot...My names Libby...Libby Love." I know my voice is quite and muffled as I speak but I really don't want to tell him my name the less he knows about me the easier my life will be. I shouldn't even be talking with him now but seeing as I'm trespassing on his property I don't have much choose.
"Are you Bo's little sister?" He questions his gaze shape with curiosity.
I shake my head yes feeling dread over take my body. Of course he has already met my brother. Everyone knows who Bo is he's the most popular guy at school. We are the same age. He's really my stepbrother. My mom married his dad when we were both eleven years old. The day my mom met his dad was the worst day of my life. They had been married a year when my mom was killed in a car wreck. How could she have known she was leaving me to live with someone that would destroy my life?
"Yea Bo's my brother well he's really my stepbrother...but yea whatever. Um...Look I have to go but would you mind not mentioning to Bo that I was here? My step dad worries about me and I was supposed to go right home after school today but as you can see I didn't. If he finds out I'll get grounded." God please let him say he won't tell. If he tells on me for being here I don't even want to think about the consequences of that happening.
"Well Libby Love I believe I can keep your secret if you promise to meet me here tomorrow after school." He says smirking.
"Um..I can't" My stomach feels like it's turning flips but I'm not sure if it's because he wants me to meet him here tomorrow or if just the thoughts about what will happen to me if he tells on me if I don't agree to meet him here tomorrow. What am I supposed to do?
"Aw but see I think you will meet me here tomorrow if you don't want me to tell your brother on you and get you grounded although that is totally up to you."
"Why would you want me to come back here?" I say dread kicking in almost sending me to my knees.
"Because something about you intrigues me I want to find out what that is. So I'd say it would be in your best interest to keep me happy so I'll keep my mouth closed wouldn't you?" He's wearing a huge smirk knowing he's going to win.
"Ugh okay I'll meet you here tomorrow but I expect you to keep your mouth shut if I do as you ask." I'm so angry at his cocky attitude. I can understand completely how he and my stepbrother could be friends.
"We have a deal then pretty Libby" He's still smirking but he has a hit of a real smile breaking through with it.
"I'll be here I promise but right now I have to go." I turn around and take off running not giving him time to say anything else.
