Over the next few weeks, Winter found herself slowly lowering her guard around Jimin. It wasn’t intentional—at least, that’s what she told herself. But somehow, being around him had become… normal. She no longer tensed up when he sat beside her, no longer rolled her eyes at his jokes, and no longer felt the need to keep him at a distance.

They shared quiet moments in the library, occasional walks after school, and even the rare lunch together on the rooftop. Jimin never pushed her to talk about herself, but every now and then, she’d catch him watching her with that same curious look, as if he was waiting for her to open up.

And one day, she did.

It was a rainy afternoon, and Winter had just finished a long study session in the library. Jimin was sitting across from her, doodling absentmindedly in his notebook. The rain tapped against the windows, filling the silence between them.

Winter stared out at the rain, her thoughts drifting to the past—to the reasons she had built her walls in the first place.

“My parents are never home.”

The words slipped out before she could stop them, and for a moment, she regretted speaking. But Jimin didn’t react with pity or surprise. He just looked at her, waiting.

“They work all the time,” Winter continued, her voice quiet. “I’m used to being alone. It’s been like that since I was a kid.”

Jimin nodded slowly, his gaze never leaving hers. “That must’ve been hard.”

Winter shrugged, but the motion felt forced. “It’s just how it is.”

They sat in silence for a moment longer before Jimin spoke again, his voice soft. “You don’t have to get used to being alone, you know. Not anymore.”

Winter didn’t reply, but her heart ached at the truth in his words. She had been alone for so long that she had convinced herself it was better that way. But now, with Jimin sitting across from her, offering her something she hadn’t realized she needed, she wasn’t so sure anymore.

Maybe, just maybe, letting someone in wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
