Waking up to the pain in your side was expected. With how deep the Demon was able to get his claws into it, you were more surprised that it didn't feel even more painful than it already was. You stopped yourself from groaning out loud at the pain as you woke up, spotting Tanjiro in the bed next to yours.
The three of you (Genya included, as you could only assume he was also in the room) took a beating with that Upper-Moon Demon. It was much stronger than Daki and Gyutaro. But you had also had the help of a Hashira when you were facing off the sibling Demons.
You huffed, this is what you got after focusing on revenge instead of dispatching the Demon.
By the time you had sat up from the bed, Tanjiro was also awake. A Kakushi had made their way into the ward and sat between the two of your beds.
With wandering eyes, they strayed to look at the side of Tanjiro's face as he animatedly talked to the Kakushi. You couldn't help but watch him as you thought back on the fight with the Demon.
It was foolish of you, totally not flamboyant at all.
That anger that had swelled inside of you during the fight was going to happen one way or another. Despite it being an act of revenge for Tengen, there were so many ways that it could have gone worse. The recklessness of it could have had someone else getting seriously injured. You were lucky that it had only led to you worsening the wound on your side, leaving you of commission far longer than you wanted during the fight.
Turns out, the three of you were only asleep for about a week. Your wounds healed at a rapid pace thanks to the increase in skill and strength that you've worked so hard on. The Kakushi left, leaving the three of you some food.
A few times here and there throughout the first week you were awake, Tanjiro would linger at your side when you went on walks down the hallways. He wasn't being overbearing with it, more so as a means that you could reach out to him in the case that you needed some support. It warmed you to know that he was there for you. It was also nice to have someone to talk to as you walked around, you couldn't imagine how lonesome it would be if you didn't.
The business that usually surrounded the Butterfly Estate had changed. No longer had you seen Demon Slayers being emitted for injuries. You were walking around the estate, a new rare moment where you were walking without Tanjiro, and traversed into the yard to see the girls playing with Nezuko.
Ever since Nezuko had conquered the sun, Demons all but disappeared. There were so few sightings of Demons now, that there were less and less Demon Slayers being emitted for injuries. This had given the girls a break, and more time to play with Nezuko.
This was wonderful news, as it would help Nezuko in gaining back her speech. You couldn't help but smile, being able to hear and see the girls finally play around as they should be doing for children their age.
It was unfortunate, you couldn't spend as much time running around with them as they did. Opting to sit on the engawa with some tea as you watched them run around. Occasionally Nezuko would run by you, pausing to give you a hug, or a pat on the head, before continuing to run with Kiyo, Sumi and Naho.
Your open wound, the one that the Fourth Upper-Moon Demon dealt you, had healed miraculously fast. Despite the clear power that was used to stab you and pull you off of them. You were left with a gnarly scar on your left side, just above your hip. Another scar to your scarily growing collection.
Looking at your two scars in the mirror, you couldn't help but lightly rest your hands on top of them both. The one on your chest, you could say, had fully healed now despite the strain you had put it through during the fight. It still felt like you could feel your heartbeat easier whenever you touched the scar.
