"Don't love you yet, but probably will. Turn me into something tragic, just for you, I let it happen." - Gracie Abram's, Let it happen

—————

It's been days since Bella and I came back from our hike. To her it seemed to just be another day, I hadn't been able to leave the house. I was too scared of the monsters that lurked in the woods. Some nights I could've sworn I saw eyes watching me from the tree line outside my bedroom window. The events of the hike played out in my dreams every night. Bella wasn't the only one plagued with nightmares anymore.

I held the blanket tightly wrapped around me as I got up from my bed and walked to the window. My eyes traced the tree line. Looking for something. It was like my soul was yearning for something my mind didn't even know about. A soft knock interrupted my thoughts, my head snapping away from the window and towards the door.

"Come in." I called softly. Bella walked in, giving me a soft smile. I returned it as I sat on the edge of my bed. The old bed frame creaked under my weight.

"I need your help with something." Bella said the words with a hint of uncertainty.

"Of course. What is it?" I said, tilting my head to the side out of curiosity.

"I need to see Jake. And you need to keep Billy distracted so that I'm able to." She bit her lip nervously.

"Jake has mono Bells. I know you're close with him but he needs time to get better." I said trying to convince her away from her silly plan.

"No, no he doesn't. I know he doesn't. Please Lilah." She said desperation dripping from every word. I dropped my blanket onto the bed and walked over to my closet. So much for staying in bed all day with my book and pumpkin spice candle lite.

"Fine, I just need a few minutes to get ready." I said making Bella give me an excited thumbs up before leaving. I groaned looking at my clothes, maybe wearing a dress would lift my spirits a little. I pulled out a white sundress and threw it on the bed. I paired it with an oversized tan thick cardigan.

"This is going to have to do." I said softly to myself and I did a quick spin in the mirror. I grabbed a pink silk bow and quickly tying it in my hair, before I shrugged at the slightly messy half up half down. Sandals probably weren't the best choice today, given the gloomy weather but they were comfortable.

"Ready?" Bella asked as I climbed into the truck.

"Ready as ever, I suppose." She gave me a soft smile.

"I'm sorry for what happened last time Lilah. I never wanted you to experience that." I shook my head and reached for her hand.

"It's okay Bella, I'm sorry you had to experience it too." I said, softly squeezing her hand. She gave me a somber smile before putting the truck in drive.

Jake's house came into view and I could feel the nerves build up in my belly. Bella quickly put the truck in park and opened her door. Before I knew it she was walking up the wooden ramp to the front door. Oh no, I forgot I was supposed to be helping her find Jacob. Dang it. I quickly followed suit just in time for Billy to open the door.

"Bella, Lilah..." Billy said, he seemed just as confused as I was.

"I need to see him." Bella said.

"He's not in." Billy said blocking the doorway with his wheel chair.

"See I told you Bella. Billy do you want me to make you some hot coco? It's chillier than I thought it would be." I said softly, pulling my cardigan tighter around my body. Bella looked back at me and shook her head. Oops, I'm sorry I mouthed at Bella.
