As Taani walked away, Swayam felt a pang of guilt. He had always loved his sister, but there had been an underlying jealousy he could never shake off. Growing up, he had always felt that their parents—especially their father—gave Taani more attention. And now, knowing that their father had visited Taani without even informing him, that jealousy resurfaced.
"Kya sach mein papa ko sirf Taani ki fikar hai? Mere baare mein kyun nahi socha unhone?" Swayam thought
[Is Papa really only concerned about Taani? Why didn't he think about me?]
He had never voiced these feelings aloud, but they gnawed at him every time he saw Taani. Today, those old feelings bubbled up again, leaving him conflicted.
Meanwhile, Taani sat in the library, trying to focus on her GS work but failing miserably. Her thoughts kept drifting back to her Taauji’s proposal, to Rey, and now, to the gang’s taunts. She couldn’t help but feel isolated. Rey had always been her anchor in this chaotic college, and now that he was gone, she was left adrift.
Her mind wandered to the conversation she had had with her Taauji the previous night. He had made it clear that he wanted her to move on, to forget Rey and start a new chapter of her life. But how could she, when her heart still longed for him?
"Rey ne mujhse fake break-up kiya, sirf isliye taaki main apne career pe focus karoon? Par unhone mujhe samjhaya kyun nahi? Aur ab Taauji mujhse shaadi karne ki baat kar rahe hain… main kya karoon?"
[Rey did a fake break-up with me, just so that I can focus on my career? But why didn't he understand me? And now my uncle is talking about marrying me… what should I do?]
Suddenly, her phone rang, startling her out of her thoughts. She glanced at the screen, noticing it was a call from her Taauji's office. A strange sense of dread filled her as she answered.
There was a pause, and then a hurried voice on the other end.
"Taani dear, your uncle is in the hospital. Come quickly, his condition is very bad." taauji's manager inform her.
Taani's heart stopped. The words echoed in her ears, but she couldn’t process them fast enough. Her Taauji... in the hospital? Without another word, she grabbed her bag and ran out of her dorm, her heart racing.
The journey to the hospital felt like it took an eternity. Her mind was racing with thoughts, worries, and fears. She tried calling Swayam, but his phone was unreachable. Frustrated and scared, she tried calling the other gang members, but no one picked up.
When she finally reached the hospital, she rushed to the reception, her voice shaking. "My uncle... Shekhawat... which is his room?"
The receptionist gave her the room number, and without wasting a second, she ran to the room. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she entered, her breath coming in short, panicked bursts.
Inside, she found her Taauji lying on the hospital bed, looking weak and frail. His face was pale, and the sight of him connected to all those machines broke her heart. Tears welled up in her eyes as she slowly approached him.
"Taauji......"Her voice cracked, and as soon as her Taauji opened his eyes and saw her, his lips curved into a weak smile.
Taani immediately sat beside him, clutching his hand as tears streamed down her face. She had never seen her Taauji like this—so vulnerable, so weak. He had always been the strong pillar of the family, and seeing him in this state was unbearable.
