The air in the room was thick with tension, a mix of emotions swirling around as Taani nodded in agreement to the unexpected proposal. Her head still hung low, her heart heavy with confusion, but something inside her told her that this was the right thing to do. She lifted her gaze slightly and met Abhimaan's intense eyes. The depth of his stare sent shivers down her spine, but it wasn't fear that gripped her-it was something else.
Abhimaan took a small step toward her, his eyes never leaving hers. Slowly, with a gentle yet firm touch, he reached out and held her hand. His fingers wrapped around hers with a tenderness that was surprising, given his usual stoic nature. The warmth of his hand contrasted with the cold numbness that had taken over Taani's heart.
"I understand how difficult this all is for you... but I promise I will never leave you."
Taani looked up at him, her heart racing as she tried to make sense of everything that had just happened. The weight of her decision, her future, her shattered dreams of marrying Rey-all of it bore down on her like a crushing wave. Yet, in Abhimaan's eyes, she saw something she hadn't expected-care, and maybe even understanding.
Everyone in the room watched the scene unfold with bated breath. Sholak, who had been standing near Rishi's bed, observed the way his son looked at Taani. It wasn't just a look of duty or responsibility; it was something deeper, more personal. Sholak had known his son long enough to understand the subtleties in his behavior. Abhimaan, who had always kept his emotions guarded, was showing a side of himself that few had ever seen.
Sholak's mind drifted back to earlier. He had noticed how Abhimaan had spoken to Taani in the hospital corridor, his voice soft, his gaze protective. It was unlike him to let anyone in, and that's what had solidified Sholak's decision. Abhimaan cared for Taani, even if he hadn't realized it yet.
But before anyone could dwell on the moment, a sudden change in the room's atmosphere gripped everyone's attention.
Rishi's breathing became irregular. His chest rose and fell in shallow, uneven gasps, and the faint beeping of the monitor grew erratic. Amaraya, who had been standing nearby, immediately rushed to call doctors,
Rashmi, who had been silently crying, let out a strangled sob and rushed to her husband's side. Taani stood frozen in place, the warmth of Abhimaan's hand still gripping hers, but her attention now fully on the scene unfolding before her.
The doctors stormed into the room, their faces grim as they quickly assessed the situation.
There was a frantic scramble as everyone was ushered out of the room, their hearts heavy with fear. Rashmi was sobbing uncontrollably, holding onto taani for support, while Sholak and Abhimaan stood silently, their expressions grim.
The minutes that followed felt like an eternity. Each second stretched on painfully as they waited outside the room, hoping-praying-for a miracle. Taani could feel the weight of Rashmi's trembling body as she clung to her, but she was too numb to offer much comfort. Her mind was racing, her thoughts a jumbled mess.
