A New Year

I sat on the Hogwarts express heading to school for another year, watching as the rain trickled down the window. "Hey Kenny!" my best friend of the last 3 years came bounding into the carriage. I ran up and pulled her into a hug. "Daph! How was your trip to Italy?" My best friend, Daphne Greengrass, had spent nearly half the summer in Italy with her parents whom are absolutely loaded, being one of the oldest wizarding families in the world. I'd been incredibly lonely staying with just Dad in our small home in Spinners End.

"It was unreal! I meet a gorgeous Italian wizard he-"

Our carriage door swung open and in piled Blaise and Draco. "Well hello ladies!"Blaise smirked as he sat down next to me. Blaise had been in our friend since Year 1 also.

Draco looked at us both, sat down, saying nothing. Daph and I exchanged glances. Draco was always so moody. "How was your summer, Draco?" I looked over to him. He barely glanced in my direction, grunting "It was fine." I guess that's all we were going to get.

Throughout the train ride, Daphne yapped on and on about her lovely Italian romance and all the adventures she had. Blaise told us of his summer spent at home left almost entirely alone. His parents weren't overly involved in his life and tended to leave him to his own accord; similarly to Draco.

As I began to zone out, looking at the passing trees, I felt eyes on on me. I turned to see Draco glancing away. My cheeks flushed pink. Draco may be slightly insufferable, but he sure was gorgeous. His pale skin,  greyish eyes with a slight blue tint, strong jaw and silver hair. His all black outfit contrasting nicely against his flawless skin.

"What are you staring at?" Draco barked across to me. I looked down, once against turning a bright shade of scarlet. Daphne and Blaise stopped chatting and looked up. Deciding to stand up for myself, I responded. "Oh please get over yourself Draco, I merely glanced in your direction." Draco glared at me. "Oh look who finally found a voice! It only took 3 years!" Draco said dryly.

Draco wasn't wrong. Being the daughter of Severus Snape meant that my reputation had already been decided before I had even started school. I was then of course sorted into Slytherin which didn't help my cause. Everyone besides the other Slytherins thought that I was the spawn of Satan. My dad wasn't exactly known for being a kind natured soul. This made me incredibly quiet. I preferred to go unnoticed as I was scared of being teased.

I rolled my eyes at Draco, deciding it was not worth an argument.

"Welcome students, to yet another school year! As all the first years have now been sorted, we can now begin our feast!" Dumbledore boasted across the large hall. The large golden plates now full of every food you could imagine. As we all began to eat, I heard Draco complaining to Crabbe and Goyle. "Dumbledore really is the worst thing to happen to this stupid school" He exclaimed loudly. Many Slytherins around nodded in agreeance.  Draco's family were known for their hatred of Dumbledore, specifically his allowance of muggle borns in the school. I personally wasn't overly phased be the matter. I know my father is a half blood, but I don't know who my mother is so I wouldn't have a clue on my own blood status.

After the feast, I walked with Daphne up to our dorm rooms. "Get keen Kenny! Its the first night back, you know what that means!" I had completely forgotten. Every year, Slytherin has a huge party in our common room on the first day back. We hurried up to our dorm and began getting ready. I searched my trunk for something to wear,  managing to find an off the shoulder dark green satin top and a black skirt. I paired my outfit with some black boots. I always loved Slytherin's colours and tended to wear green more often than not. I had curled my long jet black hair that nearly reached my bottom, and put a small amount of eye makeup on to accentuate my forest green eyes.

"Wow Ken! You look hot!" Daphne exclaimed. She was wearing a gorgeous deep purple dress that had laced long sleeves which she paired with some black heels. Her light blonde hair straightened, standing out against her dark clothes. "So do you, Daph, Blaise won't be able to keep his eyes off you." I wiggled my eyebrows. "Oh please! Blaise doesn't like me!" Daphne said, blushing furiously. Even though it was clear as day, they had been crushing on each other since the first year. Daphne was known for dating around, but I knew she always had a soft spot for Blaise.

We walked down the spiral stairs from our dorm, entering the already very crowded common room. The music was pumping and there were tables filled with snacks as well as a large amount of fire whiskey. We walked over, immediately shoting a large pour of the whiskey. It burned my throat and my cheeks immediately flushed. Blaise was known for supplying the booze, never admitting how he managed to acquire it. I didn't really care as long as he kept supplying our parties.

Daphne waltzed off to dance with Blaise so I was left on my own. I sat down on the couch listening to Crabbe and Goyle. They have possibly the least riveting conversations in the world. As I sat there bored out of my mind, I suddenly felt a pair of eyes watching me. I looked up as Draco strolled over, staring. "Well aren't you the life of the party" Draco spat. I rolled my eyes. "You're not exactly a crazy party animal yourself" I responded sarcastically. "Well why don't you follow me and I'll show you my favourite spot in the school?" Draco questioned; his silvery grey eyes penetrating my soul. This was completely out of character, Draco usually ignored my existence.

I nodded and got up, smoothing my skirt. Draco grabbed a bottle of fire whiskey from the table and we both quietly left the common room. I followed him tip-toeing around the castle as we most definitely were not allowed out this late. We walked for awhile and eventually ending up at a window on the second floor that was slightly ajar. Draco smirked as he said "This window opens up almost directly on top of the green house roof." I smiled as I peered out the window. There was a small drop but Draco was right. He helped me through the window and I dropped down. He than handed me the fire whiskey and his jacket as he soon joined me.

We laid on the roof gazing up at the stars, silently passing the fire whiskey back and forth. I enjoyed these moments when Draco would randomly lose his harsh exterior. It was incredibly rare. Draco sat up suddenly, looking over at me. "I couldn't stop myself from talking to you tonight" Draco said seriously. His gaze sent shivers down my spine. "What do you mean?" I questioned. "You've always been beautiful, but tonight you look truly irresistible". Draco nearly whispered. My eyes widened and my cheeks flushed. I looked down. How could this be happening? Draco normally ignored my existence and now he's telling me I am beautiful!

Draco grazed his cold fingers across my cheek, tucking my dark curls behind my ear. Oh my god! Was he going to kiss me? A loud bang caused us both to jump. The wind had slammed the window closed. "Shit!" Draco yelled. I got up, and yelled "Alohamora!" but the window didn't budge. "Its not locked Kendra, its stuck" Draco spoke dryly. "It was worth a try!" I yelled. As panic began to set in, we realised we'd have to jump off the greenhouse and try to sneak back inside elsewhere. As I peered over the roof, the drop was quite large. Without thinking I jumped straight off, yelling "Arresto Momentum!" Which caused me to pause in the air right before landing. Draco was not quite as smart, jumping off, landing hard on his stomach. "You could have told me about that one!" Draco yelled. I giggled as he cleaned the dirt off his black shirt.

As Draco and I crept past the greenhouses, looping back around the castle to the back entrance, we paused. "I had fun Kendra.. maybe we could sneak off again sometime?". Before I could even respond, Draco snuck away and I was left to figure out how to get back unnoticed. I quietly stalked through the castle, careful not to bump into any suits of armour.

"And just what do you think your doing?" came the voice of someone I wanted to bump into the very least. My father.
